Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller for Windows - White

I like this. It's the same base product as a standard Xbox controller (wired or wireless) with the same features - pressure sensitive trigger buttons, two separate motors for vibration support, etc. It connects via USB to your PC or to the Xbox 360 and includes a safety release so you won't rip your PC or XBox off the shelf if you get carried away. I actually prefer this controller to the standard Xbox or wireless Xbox controllers since it connects to both PC and Xbox 360 and draws power from the USB connection so you don't have to worry about batteries. I can see people hating this controller for its somewhat short cord length (about 6 feet) but it's not an issue for me. If it is for you get Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows which includes a receiver or get a USB extension cable along with this controller. If you already have a Wireless Xbox 360 controlller, it should work on PC if you purchase a Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows . I haven't used this much for Windows gaming, but I imagine some games would give you problems since the button mapping looks quite different to DirectX than the mapping on gamepads by Logitech and others. For any developers out there, this works fine with Microsoft XNA for both PC and Xbox 360.

I bought this to use as a 2nd controller, and now it is my primary. It's wired so you know that any potential interference is cut out of the equation, and you don't have to replace the batteries in the standard controller or buy the play and charge kit that should have been included with the console anyway. (especially the 360 Elite which I bought, you would think for $450 they would include a rechargable battery pack and the ability to play wired) That being said, the xbox360 controller is the best I've ever used for a console/computer/anything. Being a usb device it is usable on my pc as well as the 360, which is a very logical thing for Microsoft to have done. I used to own an original Xbox and has to buy a converter box for the computer to play pc games with the controller, this however, is so much easier and logical that you wonder why they didn't do it in the first place. The answer to that question seems rather simple though, Microsoft obviously was catering to the PC gamepad industry (which they themselves are a part of) and decided it to be in their best interest to make the old Xbox controllers proprietary so to not hurt sales of PC only gamepads. I'm glad they changed their stance on that, and did so at the same time as releasing this awesome controller. Rockstallion.

Simple! The controller works excellent and I play PC games with it and it works amazingly great, playability with it is flawless and it was extemely easy to install/configure... Reason for not giving it 5 *****, PACKAGING!!!!! I do not know if Amazon was the one who packaged the controller, but I do not think they could have been cheaper and more careless about the cardborad box they put it in!!!! The box was absolutely not able to close with the controller inside, so pretty much what they did was to fold the top of the box by force over the controller and quickly and awfully tape around it so it would hold!!!! Not only the box was semi-opened because it didn't fit the controller inside but to pack something, ANYTHING in this way can potentially put the quality and safeness of the product at risk!!! I really wanted to give it 3 *** but the controller is so good and actually affordable that it would be unfair to give it less than 4 ****!!!! Again, controller-AWESOME vs shipping/package-AWFUL!!! Amazon should start caring more about how they ship their products, it's not fair that customers who make them super rich can get a slap in the face like this... Anyways, enjoy the controller!!!!!

Product came as advertised, maybe even in better condition than expected. No issues with stick drift and all buttons and triggers functioning properly; tested with a 4hr gaming session with Forza Motorsport 3.

I tested 3-4 other controllers before finally sticking with this one. The Xbox 360 controller for the PC is basically an Xbox 360 controller with an adapter on the end of the cable so you can use it on a USB port on your PC. The controller fits nicely in your hands (mine are small/medium hands). All of the buttons/controls are easy to reach and fairly well constructed. After about six months of moderate abuse, one of the trigger buttons on the front of the controller cracked at its pivot point. Of course, this was AFTER the paltry 90-day warranty from MS, so I had to look on a popular auction site to buy a used/broken controller to part-out to repair my otherwise good controller. The included software doesn't allow you to set dead zones or sensitivity, but there is a freeware piece of software out on the Internet (DXTweak2) that will allow you to make minimal adjustments. I wish MS had put the time into releasing the software that came with its joysticks that would allow full adjustment and profile saves for each game. The included driver software does have the annoying habit of lighting up one of the four quadrants on the face of the controller to indicate which quarter of the screen you are controlling. This seems to be a holdover from the actual Xbox 360 and serves no purpose on the PC other than to annoy you in a dim/darkened room at night.

A great controller, it maps out perfectly to every game I have. This controller turned a fast computer into a gaming good machine. Now I can waste more time at this computer than I ever thought possible and have a good time doing it. The controller works great with Ubisoft and Bethesda Softworks products. I could't imagine playing HAWX without it, or Raibox Six Vegas Two or any game. The trick is to buy either a really high quality game or at least games with the "Games for Windows" label, then you are assured of a uniform interface. This controller makes PC game playing really fun and the Xbox 360 controller is the standard for game playing. I used to use another controller, but this one is really nice. My Xbox friends come over and play is pretty much the same, well, my graphics card is better and sound comes through my real sound system, video is taken by my large, hi-def monitor. A great buy.

So, if you are using XP you need to install the driver it provides. I was using XP SP3, and after I installed the driver, XP couldn't find the controller. I had to manually add the hardware in control panel as well. It finally works, but...I get the famous BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH when I plug in the controller. However, if I don't plug in the controller, nothing happens. Once I plug in the controller, there's about 50% chance you will get the BSOD. Maybe some people don't have this problem, but I do. So if you are planning to buy it, make sure you are ready for this problem. I'm sick of this problem so I switched to Windows 7.

While this controller lives up to its name--it is, indeed, an Xbox 360 controller--I found that it really gives Windows some firmware issues. Glaring ones. This is a good quality controller, but for some bizarre reason, it messes up Windows' audio drivers, so sound input quality drops tremendously and anything that goes through a microphone or such ends up incoherently fuzzy. Supposedly others have had issues with this controller and their computer's audio-out as well, but I personally have not experienced this. I first bought one of these in February of 2008 when I had the run-in with the sound issue. After calling up Microsoft support when I couldn't find a clear answer online, they tried to pin the problem on my microphone, which has been working for me for over a year prior to buying this controller! I am no fool--it is clear that this controller causes the problem, as the issue only occurs when the controller is plugged in and cannot be remedied without rebooting while the controller is unplugged. I bought one again this March of 2009, and much to my surprise, Microsoft has not even tried to fix the problem, it seems. On principle, I see no reason why they should keep my money. If you are going to use this controller for games and do not often use your audio-in for voice chat and such, then by all means; it's a magnificent controller. But unless you don't like keeping common PC functionality, don't waste your money on it.

Box was in rough shape but intact product, amazing quality nothing wrong 100% would recommend

The controller's construction is good. The controller is the same one used on the xbox 360. The software was easy to install and the controller works as it is supposed to the only reason i gave it a 4 is because it doesn't work right with dc universe online.
