Excellent choice in this price range
I have these paired with the previous version of the Yamaha R-S202BL Stereo Receiver (I have the discontinued 201). I get nice, smooth sound up through a decent volume level. That sound system is used mostly for video viewing and casual music during exercise, so I don't push it to high volume levels routinely. I did test, and it was smooth up to a volume level above where I would listen to it.These replaced some similarly priced speakers I got at a big-box store, and they are clearly superior. Videos sound more natural, and I can get more volume for music without distortion. The bass is nothing special, as you would expect from this price level. It's good enough for casual listening, though, and you can always pair with a subwoofer is you really need better bass. The mid-range is extremely smooth, and the highs are more than acceptable.I have a higher end system for my serious music listening, but these plus the Yamaha are a nice addition for more casual use in another room.

Great Little Speaker At Bargin Price.
With 91% four/five star ratings this little loudspeaker gets the job done. I bought a pair to mate with my desktop computer (sat/sub system) and am back for a second pair for my surround sound system. Since I could not listen to them beofre buying, I had to rely on the JBL name, the pictures of the drivers and the weight. Yes the weight. With them weighing in at over 17 lbs. a piece that means solid MDF construction and heavier, high quality drivers. The sound is very good (not spectacular) and the slimline construction means they take up less space on my coputer desk and look less obtrusive on the wall. The category is littered with speakers in this price range. These JBL's are a cut above in price/quality.

Phenomenal speakers for a desk setup
I was looking at these compared to my previous pair of Studio 230s due to their sealed design. My desk sits in the corner of my office and takes up enough space that I wasn't able to position the 230s in a manner that I could take advantage of the low end by giving the ports enough room to move air. These B15s on the other hand are sealed, so I put them right up against the wall without loosing any low-end and the results were incredibly pleasing.Great high-end accuracy and clarity, mid range is very strong in those regards as well. They don't seem to distort with higher volume at all. They do need a little help with the low end, for which I have a SVS SB1000 set to about 30 percent gain and 80 hertz. (Used with: Pioneer Elite A110 Amp and ODAC / SDAC)Over all, I would recommend these to anyone looking for a speaker that needs to sound good up against a wall, or in a tight space. Pair with a 10" sub or larger speaker (such as a Studio 270) to even out the low end and enjoy!

Very nice, and a steal for the price!
I saw that these are on sale ($79) and purchased them for a dedicated home theater room I'm building. The product description is not really clear enough that these are intended to be surround speakers, so if you purchased them for two-channel listening you might be disappointed. Why? Well, these are very shallow (only about 4" deep) cabinets that are made to wall mount. They have metal keyhole hangers on the back to make them easy to securely hang. Being such a small cabinet and being sealed (no port), the bass response does not go very low. It's rated down to only 100 hz, though I feel that it goes lower than that. But the speaker is very well balanced between highs and lows, and the tweeter is quite nice. To achieve tonal balance in such a tiny box, the engineers had to attenuate the tweeter, which means that the speaker has a pretty low efficiency rating. That's not necessarily a problem, you just need some power to drive it. But most home theater receivers would have adequate juice to drive this speaker as a surround.Being used as intended in a surround application; it would typically be used with a subwoofer in the system. Having a sub to bring out the bottom end takes away any deficiencies this speaker has. It's perfectly acceptable to cross a surround speaker at 100 hz or so, so this speaker should perform nicely in such an application.I'm listening to them now as a stereo pair, and they sound very pleasant even without a sub, though I would want one if this turned into a long term use.Out of the box, the build quality is very nice and they are quite hefty to be so small. When I first hooked them up I was not immediately impressed. The lows sounded muddy and the highs were lacking. But even after an hour of playing, the lows have smoothed out and the tweeter has awoken. So be sure to give these guys plenty of break-in time before judging. I would suggest at least 20 hours or so. Low efficiency speakers usually need lots of play time to loosen up and sound their best.I'll update my review once I get the home theater installed and have them playing as actual surrounds.Good listening!

Sound fantastic with a subwoofer
I bought these for front surrounds after I accidentally blew the tweeters on my Polk towers. The towers never really fit well in the space I had them (they were purchased for my old house) so I was interested in some bookshelf speakers. The two of these were only a little more than the replacement tweeters for the Polks, so I gave them a shot. I've always liked JBLs sound and these didn't disappoint me. Highs are clear, and lows without the subwoofer on are ok. With a subwoofer they sound better than the much more expensive Polks, in my opinion. I'm routing most of the lows to the sub anyway. These were designed to be rear speakers, but I really don't see why you would need more than this in the front, and they look pretty cool to boot. I'm running it with a Polk CS10 center speaker, a Polk PSW 505 sub, and a pair of old Cambridge Soundworks CR6s in the rear. I am pretty picky about sound and I am happy with this setup for both movies and music.
