Great movie and I love the pricing

This movie is a classic!

First of all, I would like to start with a brief view of Showgirls. This movie is a total classic in my eyes. Back in 1995, it was supposed to be taken as a serious drama that showed the seedier side of being a showgirl in Las Vegas. When told that his movie was given the infamous NC-17 rating, director Paul Verhoeven said it stayed as is so not to compromise his vision. Whether it was because of this "vision" or not, the movie was universally panned by critics and audiences alike. It wasn't until about 10 years later that it started to get the notoriety that it has today. Thanks in large part to VH1's digitized bras version, Showgirls reached a much larger audience since it was able to be broadcasted on standard cable. Today it is probably our most current camp classic. Now, this particular box set is simply amazing. No longer are we looking at this movie for it's dramatic purpose. Well, maybe we are, but only because it's so bad it's good and has given us such classic quotes as "I'm a dancer!" and "I'm getting a little old for that whorey look." This box set knows it and gives you a set of shot glasses, drinking games, a poster of Nomi (topless) and pasties to play "pin the pastie on the showgirl." With these props, you are able to enjoy Showgirls the way it has grown to be excepted, drinking game and camp comedy. There are honestly times that I pull out the box set just to show people what is inside. For those who have seen the movie, they beam giggles and appreciate its camp. Others who haven't seen it just marvel in it's splendor and almost universally say they need to watch it at some point. One suggestion, watch Showgirls before you buy this set. Obviously I am a fan of this gem, but it isn't for everyone. If you fall in love with trainwreck of a movie the way I have, this box set is for you!

Showgirls is a movie that is panned, for good reason. The story is cheesy, the acting is bad (despite having some good actors and actresses in it), mostly because of really bad writing, and some of the sex scenes are so over-the-top (e.g., the scene in the pool) that they are funnier than they are sexy. Of course, the big deal about the movie back in the mid-1990s when it was made is that Elizabeth Berkley, who played the wholesome (mostly) Jesse Spano in the series Saved by the Bell was going to be playing a stripper and doing her first nude role. Berkley plays Nomi Malone who moves to Vegas to be a legit dancer. Of course, that does not work out and she ends up dancing in a seedy strip club where she is spotted by Crystal Connors (played by Gina Gershon), the star of a local Cabaret show, who wants the producer, Zach (played by Twin Peaks' Kyle MacLachlan) to bring Nomi into the show. From there, it becomes a tale of backstabbing and sabotage and Nomi goes for the top billing in the show. The movie was a huge flop at the box office but became a cult classic when it hit DVD. This is the 15th-anniversary blu-ray and does get a pretty good A/V upgrade from the DVD release. Most of the extras are ported over from the DVD release and include an entertaining commentary on the movie with "Showgirls enthusiast" David Schmader (none of the stars of the movie would touch this apparently), a featurette called "Lap Dance Tutorial Featuring The World-Famous Girls of Scores" which is pretty self-explanatory, a trivia game, and the theatrical trailer. There is also a behind-the-scenes feature that is a production diary and shows how crazy director Paul Verhoeven was about the movie. That is the only feature that included any of the actual cast members, and then a new feature for the blu-ray release was a featurette with Shelia Kelley, who developed a program of exercise based on the movement of stripping. No new features with the cast members. Overall, the movie is entertaining if you take it for what it is. Yes, it has a lot of nudity in it, and you can definitely tell that Berkley got into amazing shape for the role and really worked hard at the dancing. It most definitely would not get an NC-17 rating today as it did back then, but that was a different time. As I said above, the sex scenes were pretty laughable but nothing that would garner the NC-17 rating nowadays. If you are expecting an award-winning drama or coming-of-age story, this is definitely not it. If you take it for what it is, you can get a good chuckle out of it.

What to say about Showgirls? I fell in love with it 10 minutes into my first viewing. I must've seen the film about 50 times since and I still laugh with glee every time. This new V.I.P. edition is for fans like me that love to laugh at Showgirls. Two shot glasses, a deck of cards, a blindfold, two pasties and a game poster are included along with a deck of five cards with different drinking/stripping games on them. Sadly, only one of the suggested games actually involve watching the movie, but with all this paraphernalia, you're bound to come up with a game or two of your own. If you're not into playing games, you can enjoy a commentary or watch the film with various trivia and facts appearing on the screen at different times throughout the film. Sadly I didn't care for the commentary too much. David Schmader spends too much of the time saying "Zing!", making odd breathing sounds into the mic or not saying anything at all for long stretches of time. How he got a name by doing this type of thing I'll never understand. Maybe he's better in person. Still, he delivers the occasional zinger and I found myself laughing at a few of his sparse comments. The best part of his commentary comes during the credits where he goes into a bit more detail about his feelings on the film. Too bad he talks over the credits for only about a minute. The best way to enjoy the commentary is to watch it with the Trivia Track turned on. This way you have something to read when Schmader decides to zone out for 10 minutes. The Showgirls Diary offers a few brief glimpses of Verhoven's directing. What can I say? It's very entertaining to see him and others taking themselves so seriously. I wish there were more of it. This is without a doubt my favorite special feature on the DVD. As for the rest of the special features, we get the original trailer and a lesson on how to do a lap dance from two girls of Scores. Fluff. I'll never watch them again. But you can be sure I'll be watching the film for years to come. I haven't talked much about the film since I assume all who'd be interested in this set would have seen the film at least once. After all, this is set is for die-hard Showgirls fans. Sure, if you're a first-time viewer or a casual fan you'll enjoy the film but to fully enjoy all this set offers you have to be prepared to "leave your inhibitions at the door." P.S. My review might sound a bit harsh, but I'm one demanding Showgirls fan so I've weighted my score.

A good look at one's self. I found this movie and the characters to be a joke but I was enthralled with the star's looks as all the characters in her orbit. And I suppose that the moral of the story.

Great movie really underrated has a great storyline and gives you a little bit of insight on what it's like to be in the adult industry of Dance but not completely exaggerated quite a bit actually but very good movie for the most part quite underrated but recommended nonetheless

Trashy fun. I just love this movie. It's like the ugly musical version of 'All About Eve'. The acting is either truly awful, or just plain over-the-top. But I don't care. Naomi Malone is a sociopathic and ambitious young woman, bent on making her dreams come true. She's selfish, vicious, and angry. Few people lose it over being asked a few personal questions, and after someone has just saved their life.But Nomi manages to be both ungrateful, and irrational to the point it makes your eyes water. Crystal (played 100% to the max, by Gina Gershon) is raw with so much camp, and absurd a mile a minute one-liners that you can't help but adore her. Gina Gershon, is all pouty trout lips, extreme hip-gyration, and butch lesbian undertones. I love Crystal. She the comedy role for the movie. Everything she says is ridiculous, and everything she does is calculating. But she's always right on the money. Nomi on the other hand, makes out with a series of losers, treats her only real friend like a dish rag, and then beats up a rapist, and spits in Kyle McLaughlin's face before leaving Las Vegas. the film closes on a marquee of Nomi, aptly air-brushed, and vacant as she was throughout the entire film. So then, why do I like Showgirls? That's simple. It's vulgar, and trashy. End of story. Some people like action films, some like Oscar films, some like comedies, and some like independent films. Me, well, I too like all of the aforementioned genres. But the day-to-day stress relief films, devoid of substance and deliciously awful on every level, those films I will always champion. Because, as a viewer, and as an advent film watcher, I feel we need the good, as well as the bad. Cinema has many things to offer. Why we should have to deny our fascination with trainwreck cinema is beyond me. I use films, like Showgirls to destress about the things that can way a persona down. Not the rape scene, or anything else unnecessarily sexist in an exploitation film that's degrading to women. But the ladies of Showgirls, aren't dumb. they use their bodies to make a career for themselves. They know they have a shelf life, they know there are only a many spots on top, and they know just how replaceable they are. In essence, that is what makes such a raunchy film so powerful. Despite everything, these women are all in the same boat for choosing their vocation. And in doing so, they understand one another more than any man tossing them tips, or boggling their bodies. On a side note: Madonna and Drew Barrymore were requested to play the roles of Crystal (Madonna) and Drew Barrymore (Nomi). Both ladies declined the offer to participate. It's a shame really, since Madonna had already appeared in the disastrously awful 'Body of Evidence' and Barrymore starred in the titular Lolita-esque 'Poison Ivy'. Even with the backlash Showgirls received upon its release in 1995, it has managed to become a cult film, with a huge following a la 'The Rocky Horror Picture' and 'Xanadu'. I for one, would have loved to see Madonna role down that staircase.

昔にDVDで借りて観たもので、セクシーでいいなあ と思ってた作品で、ブルーレイのノーカット版は観る価値はあると思います。内容は田舎町からダンサーを目指してラスベガスに来た主人公の女性がトップダンサーにはなったものの、友人との亀裂、挫折を味わいますが、最後は友人との仲が戻り、田舎に帰って行く内容となってます。

Ik had de vroegere editie, nu heb ik de recente herstelde film op Blu Ray. Zeer mooie film, erotisch, mooie dansscènes, goede acteurs en bijzondere actrice, ook liet ze zich niet doen. Ze kan haar man staan. Vlug geleverd door Amazon Nl. Prime. Dank U. Groetjes, Paul.
