It provides a great power solution for charging solar battery systems. Recommend this one.
Hobotech uses one of these so I thought I would give one a try. I tried other ready-made bench supplies and they are either too weak or died after a few months.I used the male end of an extension cord I cut to make solar cables as the power in cable. I used forked connectors since i do not have small enough ring connectors and too small may cause overheating? The terminals are surprisingly sturdy so tightening the connectors down securely felt safe and right. The enclosure itself is thin metal and probably would not survive a drop of more than foot.A "remote" dial for turning thew power up and down is provided should you want to place the power unit inside an enclosure.Once put together I started charging a 24v, 200AH battery with both wall power (programmed to limit charging amps to 20A), and then fed the power from this unit through the solar input MC4 connectors. I made a cable to be able to do this. Wall inputs 800 watts, with this added through the solar input, another 500w were added! I set this to around 40v though it does output its stated voltage of 48v.Hobotech stated the unit gets very hot. Mine got hot but not very. I could hold it in my hand with little to no discomfort. It has a display window that shows you the current voltage setting. The rheostat dial is not super-accurate, but taking your time you cam set it to exactly the voltage you need. The display window and my MPPT unit agreed within tenths of a volt.If you are using this for 48v or above solar battery system, this may not work. The charging source must be at least 5v about what your battery's voltage is.

Works so far!
Pros:-The voltage readout is spot on. I was expecting that to be off by a few percent. It's nice that it has that built into the case.-It also seems to handle the power output, though I haven't had anything large enough to test the full 480 watts.-It came with an additional potentiometer for voltage adjustment. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's for mounting elsewhere on an installation.-The fan doesn't turn on until it either gets hot or there is a significant load. I actually haven't even heard it make noise yet. Maybe I need to make sure it actually works.Cons:-The voltage adjustment isn't very precise at lower voltages (<15 volts).-The crimp terminals that they provided are really crappy. They don't work, even with a "professional style" crimper (though I realize my crimper is also some chinese made tool, but it works really well on other terminals). I threw those terminals away.

Adjustment is poor to say the least
I had to return this. It's poorly made. I could NOT, even with the merest slightest "touch" of the control get it to provide the voltages I wanted. For example, I was trying to set it to exactly 32V. I could get it to 33.2V but it was impossible to set the voltage to specific voltages. What use is "adjustable when it's +/-1V at best.... Clearly the cause is a poor quality potentiometer. On the other hand, I had previously purchased from Amazon a 48V adjustable with adjustable amperage that IS accurate, selecting to about .1V. I had hoped this cheaper unit, which looks almost identical was made to the same standard... it isn't.Most disappointed. I really cannot give this more than 1 star, it's simply ineffective when you cannot select a specific voltage (having to accept +/- 1V... close but not close enough)

DC power
Works nice powering my DC motor

Works very well
Bought it to replace the power pack for our robot pool vacuum. Works perfectly for hours on end, voltage easy to set. Doesn't get at all hot.
