Synonyms 11+ Vocabulary Card Game – Suitable for Age 9-11 years - SET 1

This game arrived yesterday and it has already been played repeatedly. It was bought for my year 5 daughter but has equally been enjoyed by my year 3 daughter and myself. We enjoyed the competitive element and seeing who could match the synonyms the quickest. Being able to check the answers by turning the cards over and matching the colours is a useful element too.I would highly recommend this game to anyone who wants to add a more practical element to their 11+ work, or to anyone wanting to extend their vocabulary in a fun play based context.

Great game - playing to increase our 9 year old’s vocabulary! He’s not keen on reading so this is a great way to get him learning new words! Also good for other family members to join in. No complicated rules or instructions, good quality cards.

As an experienced teacher and tutor, my pupils found this game extremely difficult to use when trying to learn new vocabulary. They found the game confusing when matching the two difficult words that they didn't understand. Therefore it made it impossible to achieve the aim of leaning what the synonyms mean. One of the synonyms needs to be easy or in a simpler form to achieve learning the words.I cannot recommend this as a teaching or learning aid for 11+ preparation.

Great game! My daughter is preparing for the 11+ and it has made such a difference to her vocabulary knowledge. Defintely recommend!

My daughter found this really engaging and fun. She was fed up of reading through the usual flash cards but with this being a game, particularly when played in competition with a friend or family member it kept her engaged and meant she was learning loads without realising. I’d highly recommend it.

I bought this for my daughter who is in yr4 and likes a challenge, the whole family ended up getting involved and we had hours of fun debating the meanings of words. I certainly extended my own vocabulary knowledge so it’s ideal for adults too! Would highly recommend

As a Learning Support teacher I bought this resource for my school to use for literacy interventions with my Secondary pupils with Dyslexia. I have introduced it with various small groups of pupils from Year 7 to Year 10. They responded really well to the game, lots of giggles and learning opportunities.Brought it home to share with the family and was thoroughly enjoyed by all from 9 year old to grandparents.Look forward to what Star Maker bring out next.

I have started using this with my pupils, to expand their vocabulary. They really enjoy it. The words are challenging, so a good opportunity to discuss their meaning and place them in a contextual sentence to consolidate understanding.The children enjoy putting the matching synonyms together and then turning them over to see if the coloured stars on the back match, meaning that they are correct.I have also purchased the 'Antonyms' pack, which is equally effective and fun.As well as expansion of vocabulary (which will hopefully be incorporated into their writing) this is an excellent resource for 11-plus CEM papers, in which knowledge of synonyms and antonyms is a key component.
