Taho Blachan Chili with Shrimp Paste, 180g, 1 Bottle [Air Flown from Singapore Directly], 6.3 Oz

Bought this for my Indonesian hubby who craves the kind of heat that makes one pour sweat from everywhere but still allows other flavours to come through. He loves this sambal!!!!!!The packaging was great in that it was very cushioned and properly sealed. The aroma that it has is incredible what with the shrimp paste then the hot chili aroma. Smells divine but alas, I can't handle that hot anymore.

I used to live near an awesome Indonesian restaurant and really missed their fried rice after I moved away. I have since frequently been trying to make it at home but have always felt like the taste was a bit one dimensional. The shrimp paste component in particular is the key umami flavor that I was missing the entire time, so I would absolutely consider this an essential thing to stock in your pantry if you want to properly replicate the flavors of many of your favorite southeast asian dishes at home.I should add that the flavor is nothing like the standard sambal oelek you will find in most stores. In addition to the added depth of flavor that comes from the shrimp paste, it is much, MUCH hotter. I would dare say a spoonful of this stuff might even give a bowl of the 2x spicy korean fire noodles a run for their money, so it might be too much for someone with little tolerance to hot and spicy foods, but for me that's just another reason to love it. The only real con this is rather pricey considering the rather small size of the jar.

I had no clue what this was when I ordered it. I just heard that shrimp paste was supposed to taste good.I didn't realize it was fermented or that it would have a weird (to me) smell to it. To someone not familiar to it it can be a bit offputting, but after putting it in some stirfry I was hooked. I really like the flavor, but it can be really easy to overpower the food so I take care now to add a little at a time.Glad I gave it a try.

It’s quite spicy, so be careful, a little goes a long way.

Ready made belacan, goes good with rice and fish and is plenty spicy.

I love this paste, literally put it on everything. I grew up with this as a child and it took me forever to find once we ran out but I’m so glad Amazon has it. Ordered 12 immediately and gave half to my parents because we all love it so much. Will definitely be buying again once I run out!

I didn’t think it is this spicy! I won’t be cooking this anytime soon!

This Belacan is delicious. Only problem is its overly spicy. Will take me awhile to finish. Wished it was less spicy so I could eat more.
