Has advantages and disadvantages like any tool but is quality built.
I own the 8" and 10" versions of these pliers, as well as, several other Irwin-Vise Grip tools. I needed a smaller set for some more delicate applications and the 6 inch set is the perfect size for that intricate work. I expect these to provide me several years worth of ervice, when used for the intended application, as all my Irwin tools have. The thing to realize about these pliers is that they are not the typical "channel lock" tool that uses a "tongue and groove" system. The Irwin "groove lock" system provides a more precise measurement but that comes at some sacrifices. If you compare the 6" Irwin to the 6" Craftsman (made in USA Craftsman, not the more recent Craftsman chinese junk) shown in my pictures, you'll see that the Irwin jaws are about 1/4" wide, whereas the Craftsman's are 3/8" wide. This allows the Irwin to get into places that the Craftsman and other channel lock type pliers can't, but it also means that the Irwin can't handle as much force as the wider pliers. Considering the jaws are narrower, if you need to apply a lot of torque to the fastener, then you need to move up to a larger size plier like the 8" or 10". I suspect, that's why several other users have reported that they break easily. The next thing you'll notice in the pictures is that the 6" Craftsman pliers only have 3 grooves, which limits its ability to fit the fastener correctly. The 6" Irwin has seven size selections, which again has the added benefit of fitting the fastener correctly and not slipping like tongue and groove pliers can.Bottom line, this tool will last a lifetime, if used correctly, and it offers some precise settings that traditional channel lock type pliers can't match.

Excellent locking pliers at 1/3 the price
Arrived today and this looks great. I originally ordered the Knipex 125 and then saw this Irwin a few days later. Got me thinking why is the Knipex 3x the price? Not a knock on the Knipex but just don't need that qualityThe Irwin locking feature seems to function the same. This is going right in to my CLC 11 pocket tool pouch. That will go into my trunk and gives everything I'm likely to encounter. I don't need EDC, don't need to shave an ounce off or cut anything down to fit. My bag has reasonable sized tools that will help me change a car battery, put furniture together, stuff like that. Since it's sitting in my trunk for occassional use, I don't want the cost exceeding $100. I think i came fairly close.Don't make the mistake and think if you see something promoted as EDC or tactical, you need it. Only buy it if it makes sense.

Perfect edc pliers
The media could not be loaded. These do it all, they are the perfect blend of functionality, reliability, grip, size, and price. This is the best set of water pump pliers around, better than knipex

Nice Tools
The GrooveLock Pliers are a convenient and well-crafted tool that delivers solid performance. The locking mechanism works smoothly, making it easy to adjust and grip different sizes of materials. The build quality is impressive, offering a sturdy feel and reliable operation for most small tasks. However, one downside is that the pliers feel a bit small and flimsy, which limits their use to lighter, smaller-scale jobs. They might not be the best choice for heavy-duty tasks, as they may lack the strength and durability needed for more demanding applications. Overall, these pliers are great for basic, precision work but might not stand up to larger, more rigorous projects.
