OS - outstanding
This is great and so much more than a puzzle book. It’s basically a map reading guide and a great educational resource. My kids and I have learnt loads, from how to read a 6digit grid ref and properly use a map and compass. Each section has a guide and hen quiz questions to test your new knowledge. Highly recommend this.

Not Just For Kids
This book includes so much information about maps - how to read maps; features; symbols;grid referencing;keys; how to use a map if you get lost; what to pack for a hike; what to do in bad weather; what to do if you get too cold or fall into the river/sea. Suggestions for activities, places to visit and includes quizzes, fun facts and challenges. And that isn't even all of it.The book ends with 15 map reading challenges to test what you've learnt in the book - don't worry answers are included on the following pages if you get stuck. At the very end of the book is a glossary of terms and a key.Although this is described as a "kids" adventure book it would be great for anyone looking to get outside more, either through hiking, orienteering, geocaching or just walking. Ideal as a gift for anyone with an interest in maps, geography and being outside. It's packed full of information, tips and suggestions.Overall - I thought it was beautifully presented, fascinating, interesting and inspirational. Recommended.

Very detailed
This book provides a very detailed explanation on how to use maps, working through different types of maps and features in sections and with guidance on how to go on an exploring adventure safely. At the end there are 15 map reading challenges.I had expected there to be more puzzles and challenges within the initial chapters to help engage and learn and my 7 year old found the book a bit daunting. The book would be ideal for older children or even adults as it really is detailed and there's a lot to take in.

An excellent way to learn about maps
As you'd expect from Ordnance survey there is such a lot of detail in this book and there's plenty to get your teeth in to. Everything is well presented and in beautiful colour. The book itself is a really great way for kids to understand about maps and how to read them, there's sections on different types of maps, features of maps and how to us a compass. There's also a skills section at the back to put everything you've learnt into practice. It's really comprehensive.I'd say the only let down is this is more of a rainy day book. I wouldn't have minded more get out of the house adventure but I suppose once you know how to read maps you can adventure yourself. As a big fan of maps I love this book and it's a great way to get kids to learn about maps.
