Yes of course they can handle hot water

can you put salt for melting snow in it?

I’d recommend a paint pail (the big 5 gal ones?) because they are airtight / won’t let in moisture. I’m not sure the plastic on these pails would have an issue with the salt but the drums are a better option for keeping your salt in usable condition :)

How much weight can the handles sustain? Would I be able to hang it from the handle when it’s full of water?

I found them to function like any normal bucket. Quite sturdy, well constructed. You should be able to hang it, provided they're filled with water/liquid, and obviously nothing heavier. You just might want to ensure that the center of gravity is properly aligned to the middle of the handle, since these handles are almost straight angled unlike most most bucket handles that are curved.

How are the handles holding up? Sturdy enough? From the design, it looks like they could snap off eventually.

They are sturdy. I have been using them outdoors in extremely cold weather and no problems.
