Hi Taina, thank you for your interest in Drive Medical! The width between arms is adjustable between 19" - 21.5".

Q: Would this stool rust in the shower?

it is not made of aluminum so it will rust sooner or later. the seat is also padded with a piece of wood in it. if used in shower i suggest to wipe it down after every use. it is a sturdy chair with great height adjustment but for use in the shower a PVC plastic or aluminum one would be better.

I agree! The bar needs to be where you can rest your feet! Now, I need to find a footstool, so, my legs won't dangle when I'm washing dishes, etc.
