Epiphan Video Pearl Nano - Portable Video Recording and Streaming System

Pearl Nanos have been very useful for live event production. We’ve been using them to stream out our program feed and for passthrough as well. We recently used them for an event with 11 breakout rooms with a Nano in each room. It was great to be able to control them remotely via browser and not have to run to each room to press start and stop, saved us a lot of legwork.The video and audio quality are great, exactly as described. We had no reliability issues with these. We take these everywhere now just in case, even if we don’t need them - they end up solving unforeseen problems for us.

I’ve been using the Epiphan Pearl Nano for various live streaming events, and it never disappoints. I originally got it as a replacement to the Webcaster X2 to stream to YouTube and Facebook. Works great, setup was super easy using the WebUI. No issues during streaming. Highly recommend it!Worth mentioning that Epiphan’s support team is fantastic, super responsive and helpful. I’ve had a network issue and they helped resolve it quickly. Bravo guys.

Agree with the other reviewer about the bitrate issue. The problem with this unit (and maybe all pearls) is that I was told by their tech support that if the unit senses a change in bitrate, it stops and starts the stream. Online CDNs (specifically Vimeo) do not like that and everyone is dropped from the live stream each time this happens. Epiphan needs to change that functionality and adjust the stream on the fly instead of stopping and starting.

We purchased this unit to improve our consistency in our Bitrate because we were seeing our Livestreams drop and provide a poor feed to social media as well as our app. Over several months we attempted to determine why we were still having issues. It was recommended that we attempt OBS (free by the way), and it provided a consistent Bitrate with no feed issues. We emailed Epiphan Support and they did not reply. Through the help of our app support team, we determined the issue. Now it is too late to get a return.

The Pearl Nano has been a reliable workhorse for our streaming needs. Its compact size makes it easy to fit into any space, and the HDMI out passthrough is perfect for displaying captured video on a screen. We use it primarily as an edge encoder to stream video to larger audiences and breakout rooms during live events.The video and audio quality are consistently excellent. We use the 4K function as well. I love that I can control it remotely through the WebUI or Cloud, making it super convenient. It’s a versatile and dependable device that I always include in my event setup.
