Best Toy Ever for my almost 2 year old
My daughter started playing with this when she was 22 months old and it has been a hit ever since. She is now 23 months and have played with this daily for over an hour each time, at least once in the morning and once after dinner. We actually have to take it away from her to make her stop playing with it after an hour and a half. I love that she's learning and improving motor skills by playing with this book. She loves doing the puzzles, completing the questions and tracing the numbers (though she has difficulty with the numbers 2 and 8, but heck, she's not even 2 yet so I'm not worried). My daughter calls it the "battery book" because it sure drains a lot of batteries given the amount of usage she's getting out of it and she requests for new batteries in less than a week. I started using rechargeable batteries because we were going through 2 AA batteries every 5-7 days. The only problem with using rechargeable batteries is that it doesn't warn you when the battery power is low - it simply dies, at which point, I'll hear my daughter yell "Mama, where is battery?!”

Excellent gift
My four year old is wanting to read and this has been really nice. You can’t find the books easily in stores where we are located but we got several as gifts from others who got them easily on amazon. So when you order I would recommending getting the books you want so you have them. I gave it 4 stars for durability because the first one we got just quit one afternoon. It wasn’t dropped or gotten wet. It just quit. We got a new one right away with no issues and it has done well so far. The books also adjust in difficulty so as your your child grows the books do as well.

Love leap from for my son
Love leap from for my son, it's a nice way to get him to become engaged in learning in a fun way. Not to hard to set up, once you have your "book" you then need to go online and download the associated audio with it. Does not work right away without it. I love it because it's a nice alternate to an iPAD learning module if you want to reduce screen time. Would recommend.

durability concerns
I really like this product but in hindsight i probably would go back and buy the newest version that is 'supposed to be more durable'. My 3 yo really likes this product and we took it with us recently when we flew over seas. We bought headphones and it did entertain her quite a bit while flying, which is fantastic. It was used a lot on our trip and we use it still at home. Only downside is that my toddler (girl) sometimes is not the most cautious with toys and she has dropped this a few times. After about the 3rd time the LF started to make weird sounds from being dropped. You can not shut it off using the button and it wont stop. You actually have to remove the battery to reset it. This is quite annoying and there is no guarantee it will start making the sound if it is dropped, it just happens at random. So I guess I have to put this up and monitor every time she wants to play with it or else carry a screwdriver with me at all times to stop the annoying buzz when it happens. I tried to exchange the product but it was over the 30days by the time we returned from vacation so we will have to make it work. I do really like the LF and the books are wonderful, so education and fun for my toddler. If it had not been for this annoyance I would gladly rate this a 5 star product.

Great buy happy I got it comes with a sample book
Shes getting used to it slowly because I did get her one that was for preschool and its different since theres a own you need to use but she's very interested in it. It came with a sample book with a few pages and the item itself has pictures you can press and it makes noticed. However i bought two books for it just in case and was worried i didnt get enough but it was the perfect amount for a 3 year old

DOES NOT WORK
DO NOT BUY! ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BUY THIS!!! This is the second one I bought. I bought the purple special edition one for my daughter a year ago to help prepare her for Kindergarten. I could never get passed the 2nd step of Leap Frog connect set up. It kept telling me updates were needed. I would download the updates, it would say it was successful and then it would start all over again. I also tried on my husband's computer. I moved shortly afterward so it ended up in a box. I finally have unpacked that box and ended up with the same issue. I called Leap Frog customer service and they sent me a link to unistall and re-install the leap frog connect program to try and fix it. That didn't work so they bailed and put it on Amazon saying to contact them because it was an Amazon exclusive item. Well, of course because it had been nearly a year Amazon wasn't going to refund or echange it for me (rightfully so). I had purchased many of the books and I didn't want them to go to waste so I bit the bullet and bought a new Leap Start. GUESS WHAT? SAME FREAKING PROBLEM!!! I called Leap Frog again and got the SAME guy "Jasper". After giving him an earful he transferred me to some "upper management" that told me there is no software issue and they would be happy to replace the item. I told her that this one IS the replacement. She finally said to send her copies of my receipts and they would replace it with a DIFFERENT product. Really? I am not the only one having this issue. We researched it and so many people are having this issue. Why wouldn't Leap Frog want to try to fix their software? I'm so angry. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!

I also purchased the level 1 four pack of books and a couple of the level 2 books just to see what they were like, and I'm a little disappointed in the lack ...
It's just OK. My son is only 21 months old and I bought this to give him something to do in the car while commuting to and from work/daycare every day. Knowing that he's currently too young to understand that it's trying to give him instructions to do something, I thought that he could use it now to practice holding the stylus and poking things with it, and at least learning names of colors and shapes and whatnot. The only problem is that it's not made for left-handed kids. The cord on the stylus is too short for the bottom of the stylus to angle out to the left when held in a left hand, so he's constantly having to switch to his less coordinated hand, and that's causing him some frustration already. I also purchased the level 1 four pack of books and a couple of the level 2 books just to see what they were like, and I'm a little disappointed in the lack of interaction that they have if you're not doing an activity. Also, the different levels (green/orange) make it a little confusing, too. I think that over time he will find this to be more fun, but I can see him getting bored with it pretty quickly, as well. - So far, the device seems to be working just fine, although the setup instructions were a bit frustrating. The instructions tell you to go to one web address to create an account and download the operating program, but you actually need to do it somewhere else. It's also not super clear that you have to download the Leap Assistant for each book that's purchased (a process that will need to be repeated each time you buy another book) before the first use. To sum up: 1) If your kid isn't yet able to follow instructions or has a really short attention span, you may want to wait until they're a little bit older to purchase this. 2) There is a setup process needs to be done on a computer and the pad needs to be plugged into a USB port to download the audio for each book. 3) If your kids are younger, you will probably need to spend some time with them to show them how to use the pad and navigate through the activities (which is great for bonding time, but not great if you don't have that time available). 4) The books are a little pricey for what you get.

Won't register. Can't use it.
I would like to give this more than one star, but I shouldn't even be giving it one. It won't connect to my computer. I used the provided USB cable, which I tested on my phone so I know it works. I've tried every port on my laptop and it doesn't connect. There appears to be no support online. So I'm going to return it. Seems like this was a poorly thought out product. Update. We ordered another LeapStart and it worked right away. So it is safe to say we received a defective unit. We are very happy with this new unit.

Fun and educational
I bought this for my granddaughter who has just turned 3. She absolutely loves it and uses it every day. The 'book' that comes with it is more of a sample though but fortunately her uncle bought her some new ones to go with it. If he hadn't, I think it might have been a little disappointing but overall a good product, which is really helping her development.

Great product!
Bought this for my two year old and three year old, and they both love it. Awesome to use for road trips. Had read some reviews that said set up was challenging but had no problem with that, found it quick and straight forward. My only complaint would be that I wish it was rechargeable, instead of running on batteries. Would definitely recommend.

incompleto
