"Changes" don't always mean "Improved"
This is the second one of these I have owned. I purchased this one because I have used the other for probably close to 10 years and have loved it but decided to put it on my garage when I purchased a new door for my house. It has worked perfectly for what I purchased it has been installed for close to 10 years on my house. This item looks identical to the old one (besides the word "Lockey" added to one side, but there are definite differences and disappointments. Maybe not an issue for some, but for the purpose I am using it for it doesn't work nearly as well. First noticable change.... on the old lock you could change the passcode to whatever 4 numbers you chose. Same function on the new lock...HOWEVER... On the new lock for example if the passcode is 1234... you now push "C" and then "Y" then 1234 to unlock the door. On the "old" lock... you would push "C" then 1234 and then "X" which would unlock the door. On the old lock if you wanted to use the "bypass" function you would hit "C" 1234 "X" and the "Y" key which would put the door on by-pass. Otherwise the lock would automatically lock once it was closed. This new lock can no longer do that. So if I clear the door and open it from the inside it will not lock again unless I hit the "Y" button on the inside of the door. It will automatocally unlock when the lever is opened. While this sounds like a good option in theory the other gave you the option of using by-pass or having the door locked at all times. You never had to worry about it not being locked or forgetting to lock it. You do have the option to disable the "by-pass by removing a tumbler from the "Y" postition but than you can no longer use the "by-pass" function ever. The old way allowed you to easily rotate between using by-pass or locked with just the push of a button. There seems to be no function now for the "X" or "Z" buttons on the lock which seem to now be just additional keys. I am extremely disappointed in the changes with the lock as the other lock has worked perfectly. And the reason I made this purchase. The only reason for replacing it was that I had purchased a new door and loved the lock so much that I plan to put the other on my garage and use this on my house. Also... installing this one seemed much more difficult than the first. Lining up the screw with the rubber plate was difficult and took some finagling. For my purpose I am not sure what I will do...It is beyond the date that I can return it and I love the lock but it's function is not what it was. For the amount of money these cost I would have expected equal quality. Change is not always for the better. I hope it holds up as well as my first one. I live in a 4 season climate and even had weather with -50 below wind chill and it has never failed. The other personal challenge for me is going to be to remember one is maneuvered one way and the other differently.Update** changed my review to **** (4) stars. After using this lock a few times I realized that it is actually easier to open-- instead of the other way-- you simply use the "Y" then "C" button to open without bypass or the "C" then "Y" to set the bypass before the number. Actually much easier to remember just had to retrain my brain a bit. It does make it a little more confusing as I used my old on my garage. Lol So far I haven't had any issues with it and I hope that it holds up as well as my last one which is still going strong on the garage. I would definitely recommend. I live in a climate with all kinds of weather all the way down to -50 below F wind chill. My first one has not failed. I expect this will be the same.Update 4/21: Made it through the winter with no problems. Works as it should. Both locks are working perfectly. I have finally gotten the codes down and have less issue remembering them. Lol I would definitely buy these again.

Fantastic - combo lock, no batteries, weatherproof
I love this lock. It doesn't need batteries, the mechanics will operate in any imaginable weather conditions (well, don't crust it up with ice), you can work it in the dark (by feel), and it has lock-always and stay-unlocked modes that are super-easy to control. The only negative (maybe a quarter-star) is that that big black bezel doesn't go very well with my white door. Oh well. There's a well-done instruction sheet that shows you how to set anywhere from 4-digit to 7-digit combinations. The programming is mechanical and super-easy.NOTE: this lock doesn't care what order you enter the code numbers. So it's not as secure as a classic combination lock, but it's still a decent deterrent to "unauthorized entry". Given that a big sledgehammer will open most residential doors -- that's all we can ask for. If you want to change the code, you take the lock apart (2 screws), then take off the code panel (4 screws). Hold the C button down while you change the code. It's really obvious what the code is, because it's all in RED. The non-code keys are in blue. When you have what you want, put the code plate back on, then re-install the lock.Niceties: the kit comes with extra code keys (for varying the codes), extra lock screws (for different thickness doors), a breakable twist-shaft (but you can only shorten it, not lengthen it), and a striker latch with backup socket.Nitpicking: although this is sold as "brushed nickel", it does not exactly match my existing brushed-nickel hardware. It's a side-entry door, not the front door, so.... oh well. The little code keys are orientation-sensitive - - so you'd better get them in the right way, or things are not going to work. Pay attention to the (great) instruction sheet.Multiple combinations: unlike electronic locks, this mechanical dude has only one possible combination. If you need the multiple combo capability, go to the electronic models. One last gripe: the lock is just tall enough that it interfered with my deadbolt. After staring at it for a while, and considering the amount of work to plug up the deadbolt hole, I finally decided to install the lock upside-down. This looks fine from a distance, but of course when you get up close, you see the characters all upside-down. Y'know what? No big deal. Fact is, this lock needs to be run tactily (by feel) and not visually. In the upside-down position, the long keypad rectangle doesn't intersect with the deadbolt bezels, and all is well.Other "likes" - - the engineering is superb for right-hand and left-hand installation. The levers, shafts, and the through-the-door torque-link shaft are all set up so that you can install this puppy on absolutely ANY door with ANY swing. REALLY. Just take the time to figure it out, and it will absolutely work.Nice job, highly recommended.

Awful, expensive waste of money, don't buy
These are awful locks, do not buy them!I bought 2 of these and really wanted them to work so I wouldn't have to change batteries, unfortunately I missed the return deadline, huge waste of money. My contractor and I spent hours trying to get them to work, without success. They constantly get stuck, they don't retract or rebound correctly. We widened the door holes so they couldn't catch on anything and still never worked. They are tough to install and you have the handle only opens them one way, either up or down, but not both, terrible design.I also called their helpline and they suggested they needed to be broken in and lubricated. I bought the exact lubricant they recommend and it did not help. I also sat and pushed each lock in 100 times each, which did not help either.Save yourself money and purchase a battery powered lock, these are poorly designed.
