Quality! expensive? Not sure.
Good for starting fires. This is my first heavy duty Ferro rod I've owned. I've only owned the small ones before this one and this one is great! I don't know what advantages a hexagonal shape adds. Quite expensive. I think I paid $60+ there are cheaper ones out there but I figured I'll pay a good price for something I believe will last me a lifetime. UPDATE: i have owned this for over a year now, i have figured out why the shape is hexagonal, it is because it allows you to strike more of the surface at once, causing larger sparks. I've used mine to start over 50 fires at least and i have noticed no issues. The size of the fero rod is still near what it was when new.

Good fire rod
I was taught that you should carry at least 3 different ways to make fire and 3 different tinders with you when out in the wild. Thats what I do. This works for one of the ways. Its good to have in a Bug Out bag or emergency kit because it is not effected by moisture like matches or lighters are. I sprays a respectable amount of hot sparks when struck and can light a fire with basic tinder, very quickly. Its built tough.

Throws sparks some distance, this us a robust, longlife, fire starter tool.
This product actually works, I struck it at a friend's house and nearly set his carpet on fire lol I think it would still need a dry medium like dry twigs or sawdust , or anything that can set in fire relatively easily, definitely invaluable if ur out in a forest and need to light a fire.
