"This book is innovative and original in assisting the reader to apply the principles of science to paediatric practice" -Professor Neena Modi, Former President, Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. The Science of Paediatrics, MRCPCH Mastercourse, provides essential background preparation for the MRCPCH Theory and Science examination. It contains an up-to-date review of the application of science to everyday paediatric clinical practice, whether it is interpreting clinical signs or investigations, prescribing drugs or identifying best management. Although this understanding is essential in order to make informed clinical decisions, it is diffi cult to obtain as it is not usually covered in clinical textbooks. MRCPCH exam-format questions embedded in each chapter to test understanding Emphasis on embryology to explain many congenital abnormalities An overview of the relevant anatomy and physiology Focus on the application and interpretation of investigations Examples of recent advances in science and clinical research that have benefitted the children’s care All clinical specialties covered by paediatric specialists Chapters covering evidence-based paediatrics, statistics, ethics and quality improvement Review: Multi-coloured easy-to-read full-of-wisdom not-too-detailed book of joy - In early days of using this book but thought I'd write a quick review as there aren't any here yet. I was all like, no way am I paying that much for a textbook. But then I thought, there are 7 full pages of List of Contributors who are all experts and so it probably a) contains information that is well-digested and actually useful and b) worth a few revision courses at least. And I was right, also it is written really well such that you don't feel like you're hauling through a massive boring textbook but are actually reading interesting conversational text. Also it is big time multi-colourful with tables / diagrams for people with poor attention spans (hi). I particularly enjoyed this paragraph: Reading this book is an example of 'just in case' information: packing in a range of general nuggets to provide a good underlying understanding of paediatrics in order to be good clinicians. When taken to the extreme, it is the diligent, regular reading of a series of journals 'just in case' a particular case was to present. This is inefficient and induces guilt when you cannot manage it. <3 paeds. I haven't done my exams yet so don't know if it would work as an only-using-this-book revision guide. It's got something on everything I've looked up so far. The statistics section is good also. I already had Essential Revision Notes in Paediatrics and online questions so am using them all in combination. Review: Bad Quality of glue used - The glue used to glue the pages are of poor quality. I am only on my second day of using this book and now I have to find a place to get it repaired. I can't believe that for almost Rs 13k,this is what I got.

Highly recommend it and genuinely believe it's what got me through ...
I bought this book in a panic just before my 1b exam in June and read it cover to cover. Highly recommend it and genuinely believe it's what got me through the exam on my first attempt. I used it in conjunction with pastest and this seemed to work well. Actually seems to cover what you need to know with some particularly good statistics sections and a nice general introduction to metabolic problems.
