Very decent phone
OK - I've had this phone long enough now to tighten this review. All in all I really like it and would honestly say I can find nothing I don't like about it in normal use. Great value to if you can get it closer to 300 quid than 400 - at a higher price there are probably other good options. As far as I can see the UK proper ones are single SIM however the A5 is certainly available as a dual SIM in some places. In summaryGood phone that is comfortable in the hand. Very clear screen and fast/responsive in use. Charging via the supplied charger is fast - under 2 hours for a full charge. The camera is good and there is a lack of any real bloatware. It connects to WiFi/4G services well and is fast to use on the internet. Call quality is good.I like the security of the fingerprint scanner though on an odd time it seems less responsive.I like the idea of the Knox locker to secure/hide data but I still don't think I fully understand it!Bear in mind it is USB C and so you may want a converter plug to use memory sticks etcRead on if you want more details.Colour/designNicely understated and a robust feel to it would be my views so far. Having had a couple of flavours of Moto G phones in black I was happy to have another colour though the "blue" is a little strange. In some lights it could certainly be called grey I guess. Certainly acceptable to me and the other half likes it. Samsung did not splash out on the box - understated grey lettering on a while background is what you get. Inside you have the phone, USB C cable and charger, headphones (not looked at them yet) and a pin like tool to open both the micro sd card cover and the sim one. While fairly robust I do wonder how long the tool will last and whether it will get lost.ChargingI think this is generally under 2 hours for a full (from less than 20% left) charges. That is fine for me and I'm pleased with that. I've now tried a couple of third party chargers and a powerbank type battery. One apparently compliant QC 3.0 did not consistently charge the phone fast - I guess it may have been dodgy but worth bearing in mind. The other charger has been fine. I've been impressed with the powerbank - it has charged the phone almost as fast as a mains unit and is great for travelling. It's this one - [Quick Charge 3.0] imuto 20000mAh High Capacity Portable Charger Power Bank External Battery with Qualcomm QC3.0/2.0 and Digi-Power Technology for iPhone, iPad, Nintendo Switch, Samsung Galaxy and More - Black In useIt really does runs very smoothly with the new processor and the 3 GB RAM. Storage is fine (just over 20 GB left at present). I've put the 32 GB card from the Moto G in so storage isn't an issue. Connecting to my wifi just fine and at a good speed (closed to the wired speed). There doesn't seem to be much bloat with it though they have obviously done a deal with Microsoft to preload their apps.Instructions are very minimal though the manual is available online. I've downloaded it and read quite a bit of it and would recommend doing that.I've set it up to use fingerprint scanning and most of the time it is fine. I have added other fingers to it now as I found myself using an unscanned finger and wondering why it wasn't working... At least one banking app is happy with that as authorisation.Personally the Samsung launcher/interface doesn't do it for me. There is a lack of ability to organise things well and adjust sizes in a fine tuning way however the launcher I usually used worked fine. I may ditch some of the other apps but I'll try then out first.I do like the "always on" display. It actually doesn't need to be always on as you can set it so it doesn't come on when in a pocket or handbag. Image on this review. The cameraThis looks pretty good and was another reason for getting this. I am a photographer at times and so I wanted something that could behave more like a real camera and this seems to. Attached are a couple of pics I've just taken on the camera which I'm happy enough with (they are unedited). The camera app is one of those quite rare decent stock app too - not thinking of replacing that for now.Things to think aboutIf you have loads of cables/memory sticks around they will not be USB C probably. You may need to look at converter plugs - I've got these - USB C Adapter, CHOETECH 2-Pack USB-C to Micro USB Adapter Convert Connector with Keychain and 56k Resistor for OnePlus 3, HTC 10, LG G6, G5, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Lumia 950 and More worth noting that they were £4.99 when I bought them - and they work fine for me so far.Split screen - doesn't bother me however very few apps are able to be used split screen. It does seem quite memory hungry. My Moto 4G had 2 gig of Ram and was usually about 50% free, this has 3 gig of RAM and seems to be normally around 35% free - progress eh! I am finding that the system is "putting to sleep" unused apps quite well and the battery seems to last well enough.Knox locker - I really liked the idea of this. Having a secure storage are on the phone seemed well worthwhile. The plan was to be things such as banking apps on there - wrong! There is a very limited not of apps that will apparently run in the Knox locker and none of them are my banking apps. Having now got the user manual (I'm not sure how many folk would find out how to use this otherwise) it is more useful than I first thought though not intuitive. The only way to add a file to the locker is using Samsung's own file manager - not daft but not straightforward. Adding apps is weird (to me) - some of the installed apps are there to add, most aren't. BUT you can download another copy of the app to the locker through the locker and it then works. I guess I'm getting used to this now and like it. Having a banking app more secure simply makes sense these days.I will update this as I use it further. Thanks. Small glitch with touch buttons but otherwise perfect
Using this phone to write this review. It's fantastic, everything I expected and works perfectly except one small issue that bothers me constantly.I'm not sure if mine specifically is faulty or if this is an issue with all Galaxy A5's but whenever the phone is plugged in charging the touch buttons become hypersensitive and so sometimes they just randomly decide to act up, every now and then the back button goes and I'm pushed back out or the screen I was in or sometimes the "running apps list" button fires repeatedly and the screen pulsates and glitches out by constantly going in and out of the same list of apps. It's very frustrating and I wish I could find a solution. Other than this issue, though, the phone is perfect.

Good price and well worth it if you dont need a high end phone
Purchased from Digital Land UK / Techno Master (seems to be linked companies) and all received as expected - 100% genuine and brand new & boxed. Mine was an Italian model I think, but as per other comments here its identical phone you just need to set the language to English when you first login.Apart from that no other problems related to it being originally for Italian market - works fine with my UK Vodafone sim etc and no difference in spec.Good price on the A5 (2017) from a variety of sellers now, and this phone is great for a 2017 model that has decent speed and power but isnt a flagship expensive phone. I think its a great deal if you dont need the power/speed (cost) of the high end phones like S8 /S9 etc

A great mid-range phone
Having been using an A5 2016 for the last two years, I decided to buy the updated version instead of going for a different model. I have found the A5 to be a perfectly adequate phone, and this updated version has 32GB of memory (expandable with an SD card), compared to the 16GB in the older one. It's easy to transfer everything over using the Smart Switch app, so I had the phone up and running pretty swiftly. This model has some good reviews on YouTube. I use it for Word, YouTube, and a variety of apps as well as the normal communications. I would definitely recommend it.
