Product description states 1875 watts. a regular 15 amp outlet in us is capable of only 1650 watts (110 v x 15 amp). how is this possible?

(15 amps x 120 volts = 1,800 watts)...still not 1875, but closer. Maybe it means that the steamer is capable of 1875 watts (for other countries?). All I know for sure, is that the steamer works great, regardless of it's wattage output.

Once you turn it on how do you know if it is on? Is there a light?

There's a power button you press first after you plug it in then a light goes on. The light will turn on and off. The light stays on with all the steaming settings and you select which steam setting you want. Read the instructions it's simple or YouTube it

European electric system?

Yes, there is a dual voltage switch on the bottom. 220V for European standard.
