Digital-to-Analog Converter Box

This brand works much better than the others. I record on 5 different tv's and my toshiba recorders must be hooked to a converter box regardless of the tv type. My problem is the cost. The boxes don't last forever and they only used to be around thirty bucks, now they are 60 or 70 bucks and rising. I can't stop recording because my mom doesn't get any stations at her house and can't afford cable. Inflation stinks!

Wow, what a great product. This box does everything you could possibly want and more. The comfort and ease of the remote is beyond compare. It has so many great features that other boxes just don't match up. I regret buying one at best buy for $60.00 (before tax) made by insignia. The only thing good about it is the packaging. It is garbage compared to this unit by Digital Stream. I refuse to buy cable or satellite tv because they won't let me purchase the channels that I want only. They make me buy all the garbage that they want me to have. It's a totally rigged game that I refuse to pay for. This box is such a great alternative. The way to change satellite/cable policies, and prices is to refuse to buy it.

Hooked it up to the TV and it did nothing

I bought two of these units about a year ago. They've been relatively problem free and only in use for about 1-2 hours every other day at most. Last week, one of them started overheating and giving off a burnt plastic smell after only having been in use for an hour, with plenty of space for air circulation. Shouldn't a $40 converter box last longer than a year? The second Digital Stream converter box also gives off a faint smell, even when not in use. I'll definitely be looking into another brand as a replacement.

I have to give this converter box a glowing report. After trying a Zinwell and a RCA converter box--both of which I sent back to the store (Walmart) and online store (Meritline.com) for being cheaply made and without ANY of the features the Digital Stream converter box has. The Digital Stream box has an episode guide that goes 34 episodes into future programing and describes each show and the cast. The remote is universal and has a channel return button and a favorite channel button. The converter box itself has buttons to turn the box on and off (something my old Magnavox box did not have)! So far this box has been wonderful because of the features it has. I really love it!
