Abandoned World War II Aircraft, Tanks and Warships

A nice picture book
I'll get the niggles out of the way first. The title of the book is "Abandoned World War II Aircraft, Tanks and Warships". Why, then, do we get numerous pictures of fortifications and coastal artillery; of trucks and other non-tank vehicles; and of cargo ships (not warships)? These are mostly very interesting in themselves, but they do not match the title, and take up about half of the book. I would also quibble with the identification (on pages 141-3) of the crashed aircraft on Jar Island as a DC-3 - it is actually a C-53, the troop transport development of the DC-3 airliner.Otherwise, this book has much to commend it for those interested in World War 2 military objects. It is in quite a large format (about 31 x 24cm) which allows the photographs, all in colour, to be presented in full detail, often across facing pages. The colour reproduction is first rate. The photograph selection ranges far and wide, including some from what were not actual war zones (Sweden, New Zealand, Saskatchewan), and the captions are informative. It is easy to leaf through the 220 pages quickly, but many of the images repay closer study. This book left me wanting more of the same.

Great book for WW2 enthusiasts
Such an unusual and fantastic book - beautifully shot photography and descriptions of the ‘ruins’/wrecks. Perfect present for someone interested in WW2 history and no doubt ideas for places to visit!!
