Life saver
I bought this following an auto accident. The weight of the tailgate almost knocked me down. I decided to look for something to buffer the weight of the tailgate. I read many reviews before buying. This kit has all the hardware included. No drilling was necessary. It lowers just fine. Not too fast and not too slow. This buffer holds the tailgate without any issues. The build quality of this kit is great. It all functions as it should. The best part is it doesn't affect closing the tailgate. I was worried the buffer might hinder the closing process but it made no difference.

Great product!
Awesome! Lowers the tailgate slow and easy without slamming down. Installs super easy with no issues or modifications. Highly recommended.

Great product
So much easier to use the tailgate. Easy to install and use. Some people might think it's a waste of money but we like it.

Get through the install the product is great.
Had issues with the tool. The plastic bearing retainer flew apart, the nut on tool stripped. On the 5th turn. Tried to use my blind nut tool but shank was not long enough. Had to grease up washers and hold back up with needle nose vice grips to expand nut enough to jam its wings into oblong hole, then I finished the tighten expanding process. Once I made it past that 45 minute derailment then the rest was a breeze. The shock works super great with lowering tailgate.

Improved fit and function
I found this and I knew I needed it. Our 2014 Ford raptor has a heavy tailgate that is out of control. It can hurt you or scare you like it’s done to me. I received mine yesterday. I installed it and when I opened the tailgate it rubbed the tail light. I was concerned because it could possibly crack it and cost a bunch to replace. If you are handy enough to install the strut. Try this. Take off the tail light. (2 screws and a tab) put some 2 sided tape ( I used the thick rubbery kind) on screw holes with a thick washer then replace the tail light. No more rub. I like this tailgate upgrade a-lot. No more bouncy heavy tailgate.

2013 f150, I would not recommend.
I have a 2013 F150 and the strut was not long enough to extend the tailgate fully.I would have gotten a picture if I knew it was going to fly apart and damage my truck. I opened the tailgate and expected it to open… nope only halfway…. I thought I got caught, and closed then the opened it and on the way down held my hand on the tailgate. When it got about half way and stoppedI thought the strut might have stuck or something minor. When I put a little pressure on, the lower portion of the bracket and strut blew all over the place hitting my paint. 2013 f150 crew cab 5.5ft bed, would not recommend. And proceed with caution considering this strut was only half of the appropriate length….

Good upgrade to your Truck
This Tail gate assist is worth the money. I bought the FOMO for our 2020 F-150 for $85.00, a lot more money and a different design, it is hidden inside the body under the passenger tail light.Once I installed the one on my 2020, I really wanted to get something for the 2008 and I found this choice. The inside shock is not an option for the Gen 11 trucks but the engineers did a great job designing the hardware and shock size to keep this one out of the way.The instructions could be better. on the tail gate hardware, the assembly is more like a dry wall anchor that is placed inside the slot and screwed out to compress and expand the piece. Once that is secured in the tailgate, the nipple is then screwed into the threads for the tail gate mounting point. It opens smoothly and slowly, we will see how long the shock holds up. For the price, you can't beat it.
