FreudPB-007: 1" (Dia.) Forstner Bit

I have a need to drill countersink holes in very dense vulcanized rubber for a small manufacturing business. I have been using other brands of Forstner bits with mediocre results... but then I tried this Freud Forstner bit. It was SO much faster and did not generate nearly the heat the other bits did, I assume because of it's unique and sharp scallop blade design. My old bits seemed to heat and melt the rubber more than cut, but this bit is literally like cutting butter. I have not had it long enough to compare the longevity yet, but I use Freud router bits all the time and should have known to try this Forstner bit first... it would have saved me a lot of time and smoking rubber.

First, a little about me. I’m a weekend woodworker, mostly craft and art pieces and some home repairs. For 40 years I have sufficed with a power drill and regular bits, occasionally a spade bit for larger holes. Then I decided on a craft project where I wanted really smooth precise holes (hence the purchase of a drill press as well, don’t tell the wife). To make the holes I bought a cheap set of Forstner bits. You’ve seen them here on amazon, seven bits for $12. What could go wrong? Well, they worked way better than my old bits. Amazingly better. But I noticed they got dull within a few uses. So I treated myself to this Freud bit. Ohmyfreakingawd!!! This was so sharp it was like a hot knife thru warm butter, and that was drilling into sycamore. So smooth, so fast, it was amazing. No more generic bits ever again for me. I am now going to splurge on Freud every time. They are totally worth it. Do yourself the favor and try them.

1 inch cutter; I drilled 75 holes 1 1/4 inch deep, in hard wood. Still looks like brand new.

I bought this to replace/augment part of my other set because I filed off the point on my other 1" bit to make true flat bottom holes. This bit is much better quality, and it shows. The brad point is dead center, and the bit spins true. The outer edge is very sharp, and cuts nicely. I mainly use this to cut holes in very thin wood, and it does a really good job with very little tear out... depending on what wood I cut. Great bit.

All of my Freud purchases have been very high quality, and long lasting.

Quality of Freud tools

I Bought this product to bore a hole in one of my solid wood body electric guitars to accommodate a mini toggle switch which was then covered by a pick-gaurd. The drilling went smooth with no issues, very sharp and precise bit. I used my cheap Harbor Freight cordless drill and got the job done. Very high quality product for the buck.

As always, the Freud bits work great. No problems and I will continue to purchase these bits. Top quality.
