He has not taken his own advice but I like his book
The author has two books. I liked the second one better. Both are useful, reasonably priced and I think more than worth the money. One has to ignore the first chapter and his distorted view of history, the Catholic church and the gurus he believes in but I believe this book to be a worthwhile addition to any investment library. His most useful lesson is about when and if to take money off the table. Everyone tells you to do this but this book is an invaluable tool in that lesson. I also particularly liked his insight into the Delphi method. When I was in college I laughed at the silliness of the method but this book, Wikipedia and a little knowledge about Options gave me respect for this method that is the underlying reason implied volatility is accurate. I recommend this book for the author's investment acumen. The other stuff is him thinking he is more than he actually is. Both his books are really quite good. They are well documented, easy to read while covering subtle and difficult topics others can not make clear and probably the best value for the money when buying any investment book whether you invest in stocks, futures or options.

A Common Sense Slap Upside the Head
Over the course of the last decade or two financial gurus have come out of the woodwork. A lot of them have talked some basic sense, but often have an agenda to sell and repeat the same message and advice over and over for years and years. Often those who listen to these gurus miss the boat, they miss the tops and the bottoms.Bob Moriarty helps snap people out of such hypnosis by providing a concisely written to-the-point handbook on common sense ways to profit. It's really easy: follow the signals or the social sentiment and psychology of the crowd. Buy low, sell high. This means not getting attached to any investment in particular, buying what is hated and selling what is loved, something often difficult to do. He also provides some essential links and resources to tools that will help investors make wise decisions in gauging crowd sentiment and signals and helping them make wise investment decisions. The book is surely worth the couple of bucks it's sold for.

I honestly think this book is a gift for all readers.
I honestly think this book is a gift for all readers. You can learn lifetime tips and tricks of the author and I think the main motivation of this book is to pass this experience, the author has learned for many years. Thank you Bob for your book, the afford and the information you have written. It has been the best book about investing, I have ever read. I love the author, follow his articles on his homepage 321gold.com and like the way he thinks. The book helped me to sell my first investment. To make a real profit, the first time ever. It is something, extremely valuable.I have been reading this book many times for 2 years. This is the best book you can find if you are interested in investing, especially in resources. But the lead theme and rules of the book "Nobody Knows Anything: Investing Basics Learn to Ignore the Experts, the Gurus and other Fools" are useful for investing in any other investing area."I always quit when I'm winning. I'm winning now, so it's time time to leave."No words of manipulation, conspiracy, but clear thinking of a great author!I also recommend his second book: "Basic Investing in Resource Stocks: The Idiot's Guide"Thank you for your books!David Pavelka

An intelligent author being real about investing
It is a short read; however this book is filled with insights about investing - the kind of stuff you don't see the so called investing gurus talking about.I've read a lot of books on investing but very few of them are written with the intention of teaching you something. Usually what you get is people trying to promote themselves and their own expertise. From the title of the book you can see this is not what you'll get. You'll get no formulas nor a guide to trading. You'll get something much better. I highly recommend this book.

Rambling and super basic and arrogant to boot!
"Buy things that are cheap, sell things that are precious." Some how Bob has marketed himself to be a guru when, in fact, he's a blowhard. On his website, 321Gold, he'll spout all sorts of junior mining tips but I'll be damned if any of them pan out. I know people like Bob...loud and gruff with simplistic analogies that make everything seem so simple - "why would you pay the baker for unbaked dough? he's called a 'baker'...get the 'baking'...and that's why you'll be wealthy because you went and got it baked." And Bob smirks like he's Sophocles. Wait, what?I stumbled into precious metals years ago. They are where the world runs for cover so have 20% to 30% in your portfolio to be diversified and, yes, buy the metals that are historically cheaper at that time. And learn to write, Bob. This book is pathetic. Take some of your huge gains and get an editor.

Great investing and trading advice and a funny read at times
Best investing book I’ve read in a decade. Even if you don’t want to get into precious metals or commodities, this book has plenty to offer. Quit paying people to manage your money when they lack skin in the game for a negative outcome. It’s easier and cheaper than you think.

Wisdom
The great thing about Bob is that his courageous and is willing to say thing that others will not. He brings a lot of practical experience and wisdom to the investment world and there is more horse sense in this book than you will find in nearly any other investment book. He focuses on what works, not what is fancy. I benefited greatly from reading this book. It is a quick read and full of nuggets.

This book was a welcomed "whack up side the head". Reminding me of things I really needed to be reminded about!!Like "yeah, I know that!" What the hell have I been doing lately?"This simplest things are classically the hardest to DO!! Probably should be read a couple times a year.Good stuff indeed!!

No nonsense way to test your investing beliefs
In a world where so many financial experts put their personal interests ahead of objective opinion this book is a welcome breath of fresh air. Written by Bob Moriarty (who runs the excellent 321gold dot com gold site), it's quite a short book, but packed with straight talking. It focuses on some of the fundamentals of investing, especially in relation to precious metals. (Given the current precariousness of most investment classes, precious metals are something EVERY pragmatic investor should probably have some understanding of). This is not the sort of book that you will get a lot of detail from as it's more of a philosophical tome which will force you to question a lot of your fundamental investment beliefs. But that makes it of significant value as it's one of very few books around which will make you take a "back to basics" review of what you are trying to achieve, how to get there and how to spot and ignore BS advice.

I think it will be very good for young people to help them avoid the mistakes ...
It has some interesting stories and wisdom. It points out a couple of sites I had not heard of (like finviz). I think it will be very good for young people to help them avoid the mistakes we all make without having to invest vast amounts of time. I read it in 2 hours and I do not read fast really. If we invested using these basics from an early age we would have comfortable retirements. One note of caution is the charts. There are a dozen or so, and they are practically unreadable, even magnified, on the kindle version.

I wish I read the book earlier......I think the when to sell chapter is fantastic.I did a little scenario of a current holding.....this strategy of a third at a time soon adds up.The book was easy to read - I am going to reread it because the principles like noise vs signals need to be re-enforced if one wants to make money in this volatile markets.

A good short book
A good and short book to read. In comparison to many other trading books there is also something that looks like reasonably simple to apply in practice. .
