Product Description Journey through the dark and harrowing Mirkwood forest and battle Smaug the dragon, who lies in Lonely Mountain. Acquire items, knowledge, and courage to complete the quest. Review Set in the world of Middle Earth, this detailed, one player fighting/strategy game follows the story of the Tolkien's The Hobbit novel and is best suited for children ages 10 and up. Players steer Bilbo Baggins through places like Mirkwood Forest and Lonely Mountain, battling trolls and collecting gems for courage and health. The graphics are cartoony (like Zelda), but this doesn't take away from the game. We tested the Game Cube version, and found it to be very rich, with eleven different areas to explore. Strengths include a design that is really easy to either zoom through, or take more time and explore. For example, in the first level, all you need to do is fix a bridge and find a walking stick, and you're done. But you can take much more time and explore if you want to. The only thing we'd fix is to add a running mode -- Bilbo is a little slow at times, and our 16 year old seasoned tester found some of the puzzles really tough. One maze of islands, that requires specially timed jumps, stood out as being frustratingly hard. The bottom line? Buy it, if you're at all interested in The Hobbit book.Copyright © 2001 Children's Software Revue -- From Children's Software Review

Which is fine, but it may take you awhile before you ...
Now the game is okay, but it has some problems. First of the camera is a pain, it will fight you when you are moving it. It is not always clear where to go, and how to get there. It will talk to you saying you need to find such and such item. Which is fine, but it may take you awhile before you figure how to get there. The games combat is okay but nothing to brag about. It is not always clear how to use a new move, which is why when it says it, do not click it before reading it. I did it, and it took me a good 10 or so minutes figure the button combation for one of the moves. Now ot might sound like I hate the game, but I like it. It is just I grew up playing this game. But now when I came back to it, it is just not as good as I remember. The game look good for the time it was made in. The controls are good, the story is wonderful and fellows the book completely. There are quests in this game, while most you have to do there are some silde ones. But these silde quests are all way to easy. It is usually get point a and brong it back to point b. Now it works, it get boring after a few quets of these kind. The game plays like you think a zelda game would play. While it is not as good, it has similar game elements. The thing you will die of the most is falling into a deep pit and dying. The only time the ai is a threat is when you get surrounded. There is a stealth element in the game, and it works for what it trys to do. There is also a picking a lock mini game, while it can be fun at first. It can sometimes be boring doing basically the same thing aging. There are items you can buy, health potions, keys, ex.If you are a fan of these types of games then give it a go, you will probably enjoy it.

Truth
The game was in horrible condition. And it the disc popped out during shipping causing a really deep scratch. As far as I know the game plays, which is important. But it is for an old console. I wouldn't have paid what I did for a disc that had so many scratches. Its maybe worth $5.

Very satisfying
Unlike Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers this game actually makes you think. In other words it's not just a button mashing game to get from level to level. Excellent game play. Just the right mix of combat, puzzle-solving and exploring. Great graphics and decent voice acting and nicely follows the book though it does take some liberties. Also I loved the music: very much fits the theme of the game.Overall a wonderful purchase. The only RPG for the Cube that was better was Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

After completing the main area the game always crashed and said the disc could not be read. Very disappointed that I could not play a game from my early childhood.

Good Game, Buy New
So I bought this game for my friends birthday used but I was disappointed when I found that I did not work. I bought the game for 10$ and the review said great shape tested and works but it did not. I know this is a great game because I owned it ad a kid on PC. Personally I would suggest just buying it new instead of ordering a game that might work or might not work.
