Lab values inform clinical decisions, support differential diagnosis, and determine next steps in treatment, but reviewing reference ranges without context makes retention difficult. Whether you're in nursing school, PA school, medical school, or training in phlebotomy, as a paramedic, or as a medical assistant, this guide is essential. Lab values are also a foundational topic in radiology tech programs, pharmacy coursework, and nursing fundamentals. This book simplifies complex topics in laboratory medicine and clinical chemistry so you can focus on interpretation, not just memorization. It is especially useful for those preparing to work in critical care, emergency medicine, or medical-surgical settings where lab values are central to diagnosis and treatment. This book will help you: Understand and apply lab values from CBC, BMP, CMP, ABGs, coagulation studies, cardiac markers, liver and renal labs, thyroid panels, and more Build confidence in laboratory test interpretation and connect abnormal results to medical diagnosis Learn proper sample collection for venous, arterial, capillary, urine, and stool specimens Strengthen clinical judgment, pattern recognition, and diagnostic reasoning Master core lab knowledge tested on exams like NCLEX®, HESI®, TEAS®, USMLE®, PANCE®, and ACLS® Reinforce learning with multiple choice questions and real case examples Build confidence and retention before clinicals and exams. Students across allied health and lab tech programs use this guide to build confidence before rotations. Many pair it with nursing pharmacology guides, lab values flashcards, or quick reference tools to reinforce retention and prepare for clinical exams. It is a trusted tool for interpreting labs in internal medicine, emergency care, and critical care settings, without getting lost in dense textbooks or memorizing numbers that do not make sense in context. Whether you're in phlebotomy training, pharmacy school, physician assistant programs, or studying clinical lab science, physiology, or pathophysiology, this guide helps turn classroom theory into diagnostic thinking. You’ll learn how labs shift with disease, how to spot red flags, and how to think through what comes next. A thoughtful and practical gift for students entering healthcare If you're shopping for a future clinician, this is a gift they’ll actually use in class, on rotations, and throughout their training. It is also a practical addition to nursing school supplies and study bundles used in nursing fundamentals and pharmacology courses. Click Add to Cart and step into your next exam or rotation with confidence and clinical clarity. Review: COMPANION READING - Scanned the topics and I'm pleased with the layout and explanations. As book lover, this is a gift to myself (hate soft copies 😵💫). Good read for those who hate big books with lengthy explanations going nowhere Review: Excellent lab reference book - Im an RN and nurse practitioner student. Overall impression of this lab book is that the information is presented very concisely and in an easy-to-understand format. While there are always more tests that can be run, I think this book does a fantastic job of providing information on the most commonly used lab tests. I have purchased many lab reference books that are quite overwhelming with the amount of information included. I believe your lab book addresses the most frequently used tests and can be useful to a variety of medical professionals. I very much like that you have included some common causes of abnormal laboratory values. This is incredibly useful when discussing lab results with patients as one of the most common questions is “why?” The text is written in a way that is not overly technical, making it easier to understand for a variety of medical professionals and students.

Excellent reference
Excellent reference book to add to your collection! It is broken down into disease diagnosis sections, making it easy to access pertinent labs per dx. The free gift choices also make purchasing this book well worth it! It also arrived super quick.

Basic and easy to understand, but lots of typos and mistakes
First thing is I like how easy this is to read. It goes over the basics, and quick blurbs of why certain lab values are important and what reduced or elevated levels might indicate. However, the authors need to either pay up for an editor or get a better one. There are a lot of typos, random letters, for instance I’ve seen “count” spelled without the “o”, clozapine referred to as a anti hypertensive instead of an antipsychotic, etc. So far the overall picture seems sound, but the authors should realize that many small errors might cause questions about the accuracy of everything else.

Great Resource for Med School and Nursing Students.
Overall, this book is a fantastic resource! I certainly wish I’d had access to it when studying for the NCLEX several years ago. The book’s contents are well-organized into easily digestible chapters and the listing of laboratory tests is comprehensive for a general hospital or clinic setting. I appreciate how each individual test is given its own section and how well the mechanism and purpose of each test is explained. The assessment questions at the end of each chapter are a good way to review and clearly correlate to the information in the text. I’d certainly say the book would be a valuable companion both to nurses and physicians and could serve as a quick reference when determining appropriate patient testing and interpreting test results.

Succinct but comprehensive overview, very useful.
I wish I had had this while in medical school but the info is still very useful as a qick review and reference. The book contains an overview of the types of lab tests there are in medicine, organized by organ system. It's succinct, all the basics are there, no fluff. There is much needed practical information, such as how to take blood, what lab panels to choose under different clinical circumstances and it also has reference blood levels for different drugs. I also really like the review questions at the end of each chapter. I think this is a 'must have' for health science students. It's inexpensive and when I bought the print version I even received the kindle version free.
