I use it mainly to get kayaks on and off of the roof rack on my Subaru Crosstrek, and for that purpose it works very well.Solid metal, feels solid.It does mount fairly high, so you will probably need to step up onto the door frame or running boards if you have them first. Especially on the rear door. It is a bit wobbly once you're up on it, so be careful.

This is not so much a review, but it is to let other Jeep Cherokee owners thinking about getting this, it does not workgood at all on the rear door because of the shape the body has and its not really stable on the front. Mine is a 2000 butits still the old body style. The item is a good idea but the thinness of the part that hooks to the striker is what causes itto be a bit unsteady.
