No, the keys don't use mechanical switches. The keyboard, in fact, has scissor-switch membrane keys. It is quite comfortable though. However, if you make a point of having mechanical switch, I strongly recommend the Kinesis Advantage Contour Keyboard. It is tough and resistant. Besides this, its high quality mechanical keys are the most comfortable on the market.

Yes, however you need to hold down the blue "fn" key and then press the corresponding arrow2) Will this keyboard work on a Linux machine? I have no idea, I use windows, I have used it with Ubuntu. I have mine plugged into a 4 port hub at the end of a 6 ft expansion cable and it works fine

Q: Can you reposition the keycaps? I need a colemak layout.

These are membrane, so it can't easily have keys swapped. However, mine came with a Colemak button. If you know how to touch type that should work. You could probably specify you want one with a Colemak key.
