Beware, not suitable for exterior doors or coastal areas!
Not suitable for exterior doors, unless it has a roof over it! (There words, not mine) Also not suitable for coastal areas. Any rain or salt water will attack the chrome within a couple of weeks, it starts off with tiny dimples which then bubble up with corrosion, also rust appears to be coming from within the barrel.Customer service communication is very poor, a message takes on average, 6 days, I have currently been waiting for 14 days with no response as to any kind of warranty or replacement, so I'm guessing they're not going to replace it because I live a few miles from the sea and I don't have a roof over the front door. (See photos and email reply from Yale)I used Yale because I thought they could be trusted, I paid good money to have the door modified to take the lock that now looks older than the 54 year old lock that it replaced!

Quality dropping
The back of the handle of this lock is no longer enclosed, the striker plate has burrs on it, and the amount of material around the lock mechanism has been reduced. This is the third time I've bought this model of lock and there are just signs of it being more cheaply made with time. Had I been aware of this change I would have tried to purchase old stock where the handle was enclosed - you can't see that it isn't from the photographs so I never gave it a moments thought. I would have been happy to pay say double the cost to get the previous version as this isn't an item where I'm concerned about the cost. The lock gets used several times a day and it just feels flimsy each time I use it, not an quality I want in a lock. Yale, why not offer a choice of a heavy duty or standard lock where the former addresses the points above.

Not the high quality I expected
Bought this lock to replace my existing Yale front door lock that I fitted many years ago as they appeared to be the same so I hoped it would be a straight swap (it almost was but not quite).Even though the locks look similar, I can only assume that the version I've bought this time around must be a 'cheaper' model. The backset is smaller on the new lock and the inside handle is hollowed out giving it a 'Christmas cracker' quality feel.I won't be buying this particular lock agaiin.Update: The handle on this lock is so awful to use that I finally purchased some Evo-Stik metal epoxy putty and filled the hollowed-out back, shaping it to a profile similar to that of the previous lock. Much better to use now but doesn't let Yale of the hook for releasing a product that is so unpleasant to use.

Brought to replace our Yale B-2-DMG-PB-40 that sticks when used.
I got the 40 mm, Dark Metallic Finish version to replace our old Yale B-2-DMG-PB-40 that we started having issues where it would stick when opened.I have yet to install this new one due to the very cold weather, but I can say its a lot heavier than the old lock.I did read that a some people have received cheaply looking versions that call it an "economy" handle, I brought the Visi Pack version and I can confirm that its not the cheap version the handle is in fact a solid version like shown in the product description. So I am not too sure what versions those unlucky people got were, maybe I was sent the old version or maybe Yale have moved back to the more solid handle version.I can confirm that getting the key into the lock can be tricky, especially with the so called "anti drill" plate. So overall I am very happy with this product.

Not an easy retro-fit for an old rim-latch installation
Whilst the internal latch unit and striker in the shut comfortably covered the old Legge rim-latch footprint, the door pull external escutcheon could not be fitted to include the two large security bolts beside the old 35 mm -'ish barrel hole in this hardwood door. An additional plate to span the 35 mm hole would be needed to make use of those bolts in an upgrade situation. The barrel is adequately secured by the conventional two smaller screws passed through the anti-drill latch back-plate, however. The mechanism is pleasantly heavyweight in the latch body and the striker plate. The paper templates provided are inadequate - printed on poor, flimsy paper in dreadful colour contrast. I did not use them! Accurate positioning of the striker plate - when setting the closure depth - was very much trial-and-error. Good templates might have helped. An old trick of putting only one of the four screws in place - to test the closure - did enable a few attempts to get reliable closure without door rattle or latch pin binding. As a blind DIYer, my estimate of "2 hours" turned into 4 ! My wife has removed my 'type rating' for this job next time. It would have been much easier on a new door! Bear this in mind on any DIY retrofit!
