DO NOT BUY FOR GRANDAD!
It’s a lovely sorry about loss but I got it for my dad for his birthday without reading it and I think it might be about grandad passing away. DO NOT BUY FOR DAD!! Unless you want him to think you’re going to bump him off. Not sure my dad saw the funny side haha.

Beautiful, positive story, we love it!
I think it's a beautiful, positive story with lovely colorful pictures. My little one enjoys the book and we read it every day since we bought it. Regarding the metaphor, it's like the Life of Pi, which story would you rather hear?I'm puzzled with the low stars reviews, do you really want to be telling your 2, 3, 4 years old 'the truth' what happens to people after they die? (Unless your 'truth' is even more colorful)Believing in this kind of stories is part of the childhood. Tooth fairies, Father Christmas, Grandad's Island... what's wrong with that?

A lovely book to introduce loss subtlely
My father is terminally ill and I bought this to try to introduce the idea of death to my 5 year old. He enjoys the story but its subtle enough for him not to really notice what it's about. Hopefully it'll make explaining things a bit easier when I need too. It's a lovely book regardless of any meaning with lots if pretty illustrations.

A beautiful book about loss.
I used this book in school after the death of a teacher in our school. The book is subtle enough to be 'nice' to read at any time but will be more meaningful for children going through berevement. It opened up conversations about loss and death and positivity. It also helped a small child in my care to talk about the death of a parent in a away that she had never done before, which her family felt was a very positive step for her to take.Benji Davies is a wonderful writer and I will definitely be buying many more of his books for my class library. Every young child should read this book at least once and every KS1 classroom should have a copy.Thank you Benji!

Beautiful wrote
This book was such a great way to explain to my 5year old that grandad couldn't come back.It deffo bought some tears for us both reading it however it got us talking and it meant he could ask questions and relate them to his grandad .Really beautiful book but deffo a tear jerker, I found this an easier way to tell him as he notices everything and asks lots of questions
