Not enough thread

This does the job well, the needle is a bit big for what I was doing but I went with it and it has done a good job. Only managed to put the needle into my thumb once, so overall it did what I bought it for. Very easy to put together and very easy to use.

Funnily enough I've not used it yet, but as I'm no longer in the sail making business, I still have it.

Have used these before (many many years ago) when repairing horse tack so I'm aware of how they work.Was using it to stitch a patch on my motorcycle leather waistcoat. Not too thick leather but enough to make hand stitching difficult.Started off OK but within a half dozen stitches the cotton snapped twice. Then the first needle bent and snapped. As I was nearly half way through I had to swap to the second needle which was larger than I would have liked but I didn't really have a choice. And a complete replay of the first. Cotton snapped a coupe of times followed by the needle snapping. I ended up having to finish by hand so it shows the leather wasn't too thick to do, just awkward.I do love the idea of the awl and will get a replacement but will ensure I buy one with better quality needles.

I was sceptical as to whether this would work as I needed to sew some heavy duty canvas to make a carry bag for a collapsible fire pit - I read the reviews and gave it a punt - having looked at a couple of instructional videos on YouTube I started my project and it was completed in no time with great results - the awl is easy and comfortable to use with enough thread for several projects - well worth the price and a great addition to my tool collection - if I’d had this years ago I could have rescued and repaired many items that have long since been discarded !

A good tool that was let down by poor quality control. The spool for holding the thread is jammed into its housing and it would not rotate to release the thread. I had to file the sides and the base of the housing to free it. After this work, it worked quite well. The thread provided with this awl is 0.8mm.

I bought this kit to repair a zip on my caravan awning which had come away. This did the job perfectly for me and seems very strong.

Perfect for repairing trampoline, would have liked instructions on how to put it together properly but found it on YouTube. Very easy when you know how.
