A Really Great Presentation about An Amazing Artist
This is a terrific, biopic/exploration of the life and works of M.C. Escher. Well made, beautifully shot and edited with lots of great examples of Escher's works and even some animated versions of Escher drawings. I really enjoyed it!

A glimpse into brilliance unlike any movie I've seen.
What a pleasant movie about an amazing artist, who isn't an artist but a mathematician. Irony made manifest. Thank you.

Happy to have purchased
It really is all in Escher’s own words (well, plus some recollections of those who knew him)

Fascinating Film
A great exploration of the life and works of M.C. Esher, who straddles the line between mathmatics and art. There are clever annimations in the film that demonstrate his impossible constructions, with references to movies that have incorporated his ideas (“Inception” being the most Esher-esque film).Very informative and enjoyable movie. You will appreciate Escher’s works even more after seeing this movie.

Mathematical Genius / Artist!
Always enjoyed this man's work and this documentary about his life and work was just great!! Amazing that he carved all of his pictures from woodblocks in reverse so that they could be printed with ink.

It's OK
Escher's life (or journey) in his words illustrated. It's OK. I've always loved Escher's works and this provides some insights but it really didn't blow me away. Just OK.

A fascinating DVD on the life work of M.C. Escher
Completely captivating film illustrating not just his intriguing woodcuts & lithographs but also demonstrating his intuitive understanding of advanced mathematics without being trained in the subject.

Amazing insights into incredible artist
Anyone who is familiar with the works of M.C. Escher is well aware of his brilliance and artistic mastery. This documentary about his life and art provides an intriguing in depth look at both his personal background and technique. What emerges is a portrait of an obsessive and somewhat self deprecating individual who parlays his (totally unfounded) artistic insecurities into some of the most amazing art ever produced on the planet! Describing himself as more of a mathematician than an ‘artist’ Escher downplays his extraordinary skills as a draughtsman and technician in the difficult media of block-printing and lithography that he used to present his surreal visions in limited edition prints. The film includes several rare images of Escher at work in his studio and lots of background info on the sources of his concepts. I found that the documentary also did a good job at somewhat de-mystifying the process of how he created his mind-boggling images. A thoroughly fascinating look into an amazing mind and talent - this is a great DVD that could be enjoyed by anyone, Totally recommended!

Watch the film, not the trailer
An excellent documentary, and more: an artistic experience. One of the best documentaries on any artist I have ever seen.I have long enjoyed M C Escher's art. This film shows him at work and at home, and presents his art and his reasoning in amazing detail.Unfortunately, the TRAILER does NOT represent the film. After twenty seconds of introduction by Graham Nash, it decays into a hectic chaotic nightmare cacophony of images and clips and is probably the only reason this production hasn't achieved more praise. The film is a calm and clever masterpiece. The trailer is not.
