Photographer's Guide to the Sony RX1R II

Can't Imagine a Better Guide
An excellent guide book. The author writes very succinctly and is able to explain clearly every physical and menu function, but even better he uses his own photo examples and provides great suggestions/short cuts on how to set up and navigate the camera including different types of photograhy. His writing style is very easy to understand whether you are a novice or professional. I first bought the author's book for a Sony RX100ii and when I acquired a Sony RX1Rii I was very happy to see he had a guide for it. I can honestly say I don't think I have ever had a pleasurable experience reading what's basically a technical manual before this. Take notes and underline sections that meet your individual needs and you're good to go.

A thorough listing of what does what
This is a thorough and exhaustive list of what does what on and in a Sony Rx1Rii. It is not a book on how to find one's way around the camera and how to use it best. It does not hold your hand - but then, the author never said he would. It is definitely much, much better than the terrible manual. If you've laid out the significant investment for this fine camera then add a few more dollars for this very necessary book.

very helpful book
Very helpful book. I am not a novice and in 30 years of owning various cameras this is the first book I have had to buy on how to get the most out of my camera. The pamphlet supplied by Sony is substandard. Alexander White has done a very nice job explaining the various features of the RX1rII and organizing the material into useful chapters. Highly recommend.

Best Street Camera ever
Great compact camera. Superb images. Latest technology. Photos can be cropped and blow up immensely given large size files. Bought for a Baltic cruise - My Sony A7 was too big and heavy to carry for snapshots.

Excellent help to operate the Sony RX1R M2
I recommend this book to anyone who has the Sony RX1R M2. Easy to read and understand all the technical aspects. The best complement to discover and understand the extensive menu that has this wonderful camera and all its capabilities

Good Book
Makes up for the deplorable insufficiency of the manufacturer's manual.I wish the author had an appendix for recommended customization profiles for each specific type of photography.

I got a book with the cover tore.
The book book cover is tore. I bought a brand new book, not a used on. I would like to have it replaced by a brand new one. I paid a full price.

Vital if you own an RX1R2.
For such an expensive camera from such a large company, a lot of it's qualities are largely glossed over in the provided manual. If you get one, get this book.

What Sony should include or add a link to
Sony documentation is popularly described as awful - I agree wholeheartedly. This is what Sony should include with the camera - its fabulously clear and and I was able to get my head round topics more easily, for example, flash.I find Kindle on an iPhone too fiddly but never tried on an iPad. I think the book might be better. The author kindly provided me with a pdf, which is glorious to read on any device.

Sony RX1
Sony RX1 Anleitung und Hilfe leicht verständlich. Auch für Sony RX1R zu gebrauchen ,da es leider keine andere Publikation und auch nichts in deutscher Sprache gibt.

A reference book to a great camera, but little here about technique
The Sony RX1R II is a remarkable compact camera, with superb quality lens and CCD, and controls that are logical and easy to figure out and use. There' scant included documentation in the box with the camera, and while some may argue that everything can be figured out by using the camera menus and reading the screen, a reference book to using the RX1R in the most efficient manner, and explaining the various camera settings, is an excellent reference (and considering the high cost of the RX1R II, it's a worthwhile investment). So, after buying the camera, I bought this book to read while on the road with my cameras.I am of a split mind about this book, for several reasons. To start with, it's a sizable book, quite dense, with not too many photos (surprisingly, to my mind). On the positive side, the book is exhaustive in its coverage of every single option available on the RX1R. Every setting I was interested in was explained, with options covered when associated functions are necessary, and the level of detail is excellent. What I found problematic with the book is preceisly the level of detail that is so thorough: it's a boring read working through the chapters, which are basically a list with explanations, and it's lack of engagement had me putting the book down more often than I would have liked. Finding details about submenus is sometimes a bit time-consuming, too. This is not a book about photography and how to take photographs. As the name of he book implies ("Photographer's Guide..." it's a book about the camera, and leaves much of the technique of photography to the reader, unmentioned in the book except where settings can be used for photographic effects. This is a reference book to the camera's workings, not a "try this for this kind of effect" book.As a guide to the RX1R's settings, menus, and options, this is an excellent level of detail and covers everything you could expect to need. As a guide to using the RX1R to take photos, with tips and tricks, it falls short. It depends on what you expect from the book...
