This should hold a small baby. Maybe 6lbs or under.

Hand washed , spot clean. Seems sturdy enough for a washer if need be

Would it hold a 5 lb bag of potatoes?

I don’t have an actual 5 pound bag of potatoes but that volume would probably fit if they were piled high above the top edge. The basket is 12x8x5 inches. It is soft/flexible, not rigid.
