I use this wool with paste wax for satin finishing varnish on woods. These have no random contaminants or oils that will screw up your finish, and most wools you get locally will be contaminated.

Perfect stuff

Cleaned and refinished kitchen cabinets with this, Murphy's oil soap, and tung oil. Very good and reasonably priced 0000 steelwool.

This is not your average hardware store steel wool. This is the mac daddy and is super even and consistent. I use the Lowe's stuff if I want to knock the rust off of a pair of garden shears or something. I'm an intermediate turner, and have done flat work for about 40 years.For my small wood turnings and boxes and such, I use this for the final stages of padding on shellac, or knocking back the nubs on a poly finish. No silicone in it so you can apply finish after use.Love it. Never in my life thought I'd be giving this kind of rating over something as mundane as steel wool. :-)

I used this product for burnishing a marquetry picture that I had made. It takes the mirror-like finish of 100 grit paper back to a Matt satin finish which is what I was trying to do. I had to experiment a little before getting the finish but that was probably because I'd never used wire wool before.
