Q: Hi i'd like to know what type of 12v deep cycle battery do you recomend.actualy i need to power one 12v flood led light for a night time.thanks.

In order to determine what type of battery to use, first you need to establish the estimated load. If you plan to use an led light with a motion sensor, the ultimate overnight load (total watts used) will be substantially less than if you plan to leave the light on all night. I suggest that you use a sealed lead acid battery designed for deep cycle service. The amp/hour rating of the battery should be at least 7 if the light is in a low traffic area and 15 or more if it is in a high traffic area. If you plan to leave the light on all night, first determine the wattage of the light. Divide the wattage of the light by 12 to determine the amp/hours. Then determine the maximum hours of darkness and then multiply the established amp/hours by the maximum hours. EXAMPLE: 30 watt bulb power draw/12 volt = 2.5 amps X 14 hours (light on time) = 35 amp/hour minimum battery rating.

Q: does it hurt the battery if it gets to the low voltage shut off?

The controller takes care of that. It won't let it discharge to the point of damaging the battery or batteries.

Q: I will be using this on an old tractor that doesn't see a lot of use. Do I need to disconnect the negative battery cable to use the charger?

I put this on a shed in my back yard to keep the battery in my mower and compact tractor charged up. I’ve never disconnected anything and haven’t had any problems.
