Effective anti-theft device for a car in a driveway
I am using Disklok to prevent auto theft. If I had this product 4 weeks ago my last car wouldn't have been stolen.

Worth it
As advertised and I believe it is enough of a deterrent to warrant the price. Since there’s plenty written about this product online and demonstrated on YouTube, I’ll just address some of the negative things that have been said…At least one reviewer mentioned that it’s possible to still partially hold the bottom part of the steering wheel (towards the back of the wheel) and still steer the car. I tested it on my car, and that reviewer is correct but only to an extent. You can still steer the car (in the way I mentioned) but you probably couldn’t safely drive more than 5 MPH, your turns would be extremely slow. In other words, you could only do this in an empty parking lot. When you consider the way a thief wants to drive once the car is stolen (fast, rolling fast stops, etc.), I just can’t imagine a thief being able to do this with this device on. If he/she did, it would be slow getaway and either police get them easily or (if you carry a firearm) you could out the tires (just a thought). And they’d have a hard time navigating out of a crowded parking lot or a space parallel parked. Thus, while that reviewer is correct that the wheel can be partially steered, this device still serves its purpose and is enough of a deterrent. Also, the only way you could make the wheel completely cover every aspect of the wheel is if the company made a custom one for each wheel, and that would be impractical for the company and would raise the price a lot. Also, the device is not as heavy as some people say. I’m frail and can’t bench my own weight, and I don’t have an issue taking it off and placing it in the seat behind me. It is big though, and it you’ll have to learn at first when taking it off/on to not crash your windshield, but you’ll adjust. People who keep their cars clear of extra stuff (on floor, seats, etc.) won’t have issues, but if you keep lots of stuff (car seat, etc.), you’ll have to plan ahead where you want to keep this thing. This thing is sturdy, and I tested my three keys multiple times before using—no issues. The instructions tell you what your options are if you lose all keys or you can’t get it off.Lastly, this silver thing really stands out to anyone who passes by the car. Again, its ultimate purpose is deterrence, and it does that I believe. I’d buy it again (though hopefully I’ll never have to).

Helps slow down or deter the thief.
I bought the small size for modified civic that I hardly drive. It was stolen before the purchase of the disklok. It has a good fit on my 90’s civic with stock steering wheel. Can you still drive the car as another reviewer mentioned? In my case, yes but I wouldn’t do it. Yes, you can drive in a straight line, no problem...but last I checked, roads have turns. You cannot drive a vehicle safely or quickly with the disklok installed properly, which means, a good fit.Granted, my vehicle doesn’t have power steering so that adds to the difficulty when trying to drive with the disklok in place. I know that a rebuttal may be that a thief won’t care about safety but they do factor in speed. If you can slow down an amateur, they will most likely move on. A pro, forget it, if they want your car, they are taking it, disklok or not.So, use common sense and buy the disklok but don’t let it be your only line of defense. I have numerous kill switches, remove the main relay, and park my other vehicle behind the civic to block it in. I know it’s not practical, easy or probably applicable to you but every bit helps. When I do take my vehicle out for a spirited canyon drive and run an errand, the disklok does certainly give me added peace of mind. I do not feel invincible though but nothing you can buy will. Sure, it’s heavy, a bit of a pain to unlock sometimes but it’s still amazing and I would buy it again.Remember, this is a product designed to fit as many vehicles as possible, not to fit “your” car perfectly. The disklok accomplishes this task and at a great price point. If you want to criticize it, come up with a better product yourself. You might be able to, but it probably won’t fit as many vehicles as this can and it will be far more expensive. To summarize and in other words, unless a thief is just going to drive away a short distance in a straight line this should slow them down. Also, if they really want your car, they’re taking it. They can always use a tow truck and be gone in seconds. Don’t bring this product down by asking it to do the impossible.I was not paid for this review. Actually, I bought it used on Amazon. Just a normal guy who appreciates a well thought out product.

Impressively heavy
The lock is sticky; now that we're down to below freezing, I've stopped using because I'm afraid of the lock freezing up.Also, I don't have a separate trunk, and if I were in a crash, I dread the damage this thing would cause. I wish there were some metal loops I could string a seatbelt through to secure it in the back seat. But otherwise, I do like it.

Does the job.
I started looking for an anti-car-theft device after learning that master sets of car keys are now available on the internet. My neighbor nearly had her 15-year-old Honda stolen out of her driveway with one of these master keys (in her instance, the cheap key broke off in the ignition while the thief was trying to start it).I looked into kill switches, "club" style deterrents and other options, and watched a few hours of YouTube videos on the subject. Many of these are easy for thieves to overcome, and in fact most only slow them down for a few seconds. I decided on the Disklok because although it too can be removed, it would take at least five minutes and extreme amounts of noise to get it off. That's enough for me. I no longer worry about my car being stolen out of my driveway at night.ONE YEAR LATER...I have now had the device for one year and want to provide this update.1) I continue to appreciate the streamlined and understated design.2) You will have to think about what you'll do if you park your car far from home (maybe in another city) and lose the key. It's probably best to go ahead and order several more spare keys for the manufacturer so you can have TWO with you while traveling and a spare or two in a safe place at home.3) For a more limited level of protection, you can put this on your steering wheel but not lock it. You can rotate the Disklok on the wheel so the lock is at the bottom, and anyone looking in the car window will not be able to tell whether or not it's locked.4) It is heavy enough to be awkward to put on and take off. I usually toss it over into the passenger seat while I'm driving. If you have to put it in the back seat every time, it's going to be more of a hassle to deal with.
