The Ego and the Id ranks high among the works of Freud's later years. The heart of his concern is the ego, which he sees battling with three forces: the id, the super-ego, and the outside world. Of the various English translations of Freud's major works to appear in his lifetime, only one was authorized by Freud himself: The Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud under the general editorship of James Strachey. Freud approved the overall editorial plan, specific renderings of key words and phrases, and the addition of valuable notes, from bibliographical and explanatory. Many of the translations were done by Strachey himself; the rest were prepared under his supervision. The result was to place the Standard Edition in a position of unquestioned supremacy over all other existing versions. Review: Excellent resource! - Excellent resource! Great book could be difficult for beginners.

Good edition of a timeless book
Don't think that Freud needs my recommendation, but this was a well put together book and I felt like leaving a little note. You need to consider the context of Freud's circumstances and time when he was writing this work to appreciate it truly. It might not be 100% relevant in 2023, but this volume is very well done with good commentary and introductions. So it gets 5 stars compared to other editions of Freud's works.

Just Right.
Everything anyone who is inetersted in psychology particularly this area that you would need. Not an easy read but great to referance and to understand the area more clearly.

Complicated read but interesting, leaves of plenty food for thought! Would recommend this to anyone who has an interest in psychology, psychiatry, psychotherapy or psychoanalysis!
