No-shine but good hold for the value
This is a clay, it is supposed to have a dryer look, is very good and holds very well. Good for the money and very washable. No-shine.

AMAZING!!! TOTALLY RECOMEND!! WORKS ON STRAIGHT HAIR!!
THIS WORKS GREAT!!! It lasts a long time, and my hair doesn't look oily at all, at any time. You can style your hair any way and it will stay. (it can even stand up straight) This product is amazing and works on even my very straight and thick hair!!! After washing your hair it does come out BUT so does every other hair product. This product is great because it doesn't take much

Awesome function, bad smell
* Little goes very long way, use half what think need and adjust from there.* Great hold with true Matte finish.*The bad.. for anyone who has ever gutted a deer, the smell that's inside the cavity.. that's what this stuff smells like before drys.

All day hold
My son really likes this hair clay. Not too gummy. Works into the hair nicely with good hold throughout the day

Takes too much product for me
I'd like to review this higher because I think it might suit other individuals better, this perhaps just wasn't my style. I'm not a hair expert so it's hard for me to say.I'm used to using American Crew Forming Cream (the green one for the color coding folks), it's a thick, waxy, cream that almost melts between your fingers as you rub it between your hands, has a yellowish/whitish beeswax type of look to it. It leaves a pretty heavy (shiny/greasy as advertised) feeling in my hair and is susceptible to humidity.I LOVE the more matte finish this Smooth Viking Forming Cream leaves in my hair, and it seems to hold up better to humidity. The fragrance is super mild but pleasant. This is a totally different consistency, upon opening it it almost reminds me of marshmallow fluff. After dipping your finger in, it's roughly the consistency of soft margarine. Also compared to American Crew's forming cream, this "reactivates" better with water. The more I have to add any water to my hair/product throughout the day with American Crew, the heavier and greasier my hair looks and feels. This seems to help my hair retain volume better throughout the day while allowing me to use some water to touch up as hairs come out of place. The Bad - A super tiny amount (think 2 or 3 peas worth) of American Crew Forming Cream is all that it takes me for all of my hair. I have thick hair, approximately 7 inches long on top, kept high and tight on the sides but not buzzed. I need a comparatively large amount (twice as much or more) of this Smooth Viking cream, especially anywhere in the back or sides where it feels like I have to add extra to tame short flyaway hairs. If you don't care about how much you have to use, this product is awesome. May also be more well suited to shorter hair.Though I like the product, the amount I have to use seems like a lot and this is already (at the time of writing) $6.16 per ounce compared to $3.69 for American Crew. Because this is about 66% more expensive and I use twice as much or more, I won't stick with it.I will more than likely try another Smooth Viking product at some point, the product seems good and despite both being dubbed as "Forming Cream" Smooth Viking may have another product in their line up that is more of a one to one match with American Crew's. If I could achieve these results with another one of their products without having to use so much, I would definitely switch to Smooth Viking over American Crew despite the higher price.

A Clay That Works Wonders!
My brother uses so much different products in his hair, it's rather ridiculous.I have been looking for a cruelty-free, high-quality, natural styling clay for my brother to use and I believe I found it in Smooth Viking Styling Clay! After using this product for a week, my brother won't leave it alone. He likes to do those pompadours and retro styles using this stuff and I am amazed at how well it keeps all day!A little goes a long way with this product, it's so thick you got to rub it in your hands to warm it up a bit and when you do, it becomes like a sticky liquid. The smell reminds me of a floral Elmer's Glue. (A clay is a clay, I suppose!) So if you are someone who doesn't like that kinda smell, I'd recommend something else or at the very least, use a little of this because it can overwhelm you. (The first time my brother used it, when he'd walk by..I'd get a huge whiff of the stuff!)It's a very concentrated styling clay and despite the smell, it works wonders for getting those looks on point! My brother had mentioned that the smell is well worth it, because he loves how well it holds his hair and how it doesn't give off shine. The matte finish is what really sold him! It's Pliable and durable and the 2oz container is actually pretty generous!I have noticed some volume in my brothers hair, as well. The texture and the thickness of the clay must create that extra va-voom!I am impressed and so is my brother. We both have rated it the same, 5/5!-The following rating comes from:1 star- Packaging. (Is the item packaged well?)1 star- Quality & Materials. (Is the item made well?)1 star- Functions & Usability. (Does the item work well?)1 star- Construction & Design. (Does the item look good?)1 star- Quality Strength & Weight. (Does the item feel good?)-How I review:Based on those 5 mentions above, I take everything into consideration before posting a final review. Also, I use mere common sense when it comes to rating. Is the product worth this amount of stars? Is it not? What would I improve? Is the negative I dislike, if any at all, something that is an error in construction & design or is it something the company couldn't possibly control? And, if all else fails, can I do something to alternate or change the ability of this negative? All this and more is considered before I post.I do a lot of shopping on Amazon, so I decided to take the liberty to post reviews on items I think deserve it.Because I want people who are genuinely interested to know more about the product before they commit. These are my own opinions, I am doing this review merely for the sake of reviewing and expressing my freedom to review.Thank you!
