Instructions were easy to follow, but I hadn't realized that you absolutely cannot finish installing unless you have a wrench to remove the plastic parts that stick up. (It's not enough just to tighten them by hand.) If you don't remove them, you can't push down the two little flaps anchoring the seat and the toilet lid won't go back all the way.

First of all I have to say this toilet seat is the best made toilet seat I’ve ever purchased in my 55 years of life. Well 43 years of shopping. The quality is amazing and is definitely built to last! The 1st one I had lasted over 5 years. It broke because of visitor’s using it for off label use. Anyway, I then bought a similar one from same company but $5-$10 cheaper. It was the “usual crap” I’ve bought all my life. It lasted 7, 8 months? So I ordered the original one and sadly it had/has some slight damage on the inner lid ;( see video & photos ) that for me is driving me nuts but the quality is a keeper and my roommate had already installed it thinking it was dirt marks or whatever so I wasn’t going through with a return. I’m wondering if there’s a way I can touch it up so it doesn’t drive me insane for the next 10+ years! The visitors that broke the 1st one passed on since so only their ghost will visit! I don’t think they weigh much! Just buy it!!! But check it before installing! I know this was a fluke incident!! 10 stars If I could! Great price too! Real wood and had a former guest that weighed 500 pounds and used it during holiday and it didn’t budge!

Just like the old seats from last century. Bought mayfair slow close twice. First one lasted about 1yr+, 2nd one 9mos. Hinges broke both times with gentle use. If you want a slow close you should spend $40+ and I'm not spending that on a toilet seat.
