My son is 2 & has a speech delay. I’ve found Sandra Boynton books to be super helpful for teaching new words because they’re catchy, funny, rhyme well, and have funny illustrations. My son’s favorites are Moo, Baa, La La La, The Going to Bed Book, Pajama Time, and now this one!! I like to read the story through a few times, especially when it’s brand new, and once he’s gotten familiar with the wording, I’ll leave the last word off and pause for awhile in hopes he’ll finish the sentence. This book is perfect for that, since there’s only 2 short words on each page. “Opposites” has helped teach him to say slow, tall, and out. He loves pointing to the animals in here and making their noises. It’s a really short read, but great for teaching new words and learning about opposites!! He loves it so much that he brings it to me all day to read. I highly recommend it! Hope this helps. ☺️ Review: Great bedtime story - This book is very cute. I have a 4 year old son that likes it a lot. It takes about 3/4 minutes to read, which makes for a great quick bedtime story. Its good quality standard hardcover children's book. Its great for little ones because it has sturdy thick pages. This is a great addition to my sons library. It also has a lot of reparative words which is great for a child that is learning to read. I would say the age for this story would be best for 0-5. This is the 2nd book we have gotten from this author, I like that her other books are listed on the back so my son can pick out other he would like.

Fun & Classic board book
I read some of Boynton’s board books to my boys growing up and love giving out favorites to new moms. They are fun to read and well-illustrated. Recommend this book as well as Barnyard Dance! 🤠

Great book for my shy toddler
My toddler is going through a phase where she’s recently become very afraid of other kids but watches them with curiosity and even mimics their behavior (be it laughing or squealing or crying). So instead of playing with them she keeps a safe distance but I can tell there’s a part of her that wants to play along. I think the hippopotamus may be going through similar shyness/fears. I’m hoping my child will relate and see that the hippopotamus overcame it and said yes to putting her fears aside and making new friends, and she can, too! Very cute book! Someone commented they thought it was sad that the ending brought a new character who essentially replaces the hippopotamus (excluded and watching from the sidelines), but I thought it was kind of cute/clever and points out that there are other shy kids out there. You’re not the first— or the last— kid to feel this way; some kids need a little time to warm up to making new friends and that’s okay. That’s the message we are taking from it anyway! But the book is written so that I think it can be interpreted to relate to other lessons. It’s good like that!

Great at teaching opposites
We love Sandra Boynton in our house. This house doubles as a bedtime book but also taught my toddler opposite words. He can read it to himself now.

Book for toddlers
The book is excellent, with easily understandable illustrations that clearly and simply depict opposites. The pages are thick, but the softcover binding is still easy for a baby to chew on, so it’s important to supervise when the baby is handling it.

と、うたっているだけあって、大人の私も笑ってしまいます。 韻を踏んでいて、リズミカル。 いつの間にか口ずさんでしまいそうな絵本です。

I am a Sandra Boynton fan and my four-year-old son has several of her books. I bought this one for my 18-month-old and he already likes it. It is good because he is too young to follow a story, but he loves looking at the pictures and turning the pages. The cardboard is sturdy, which allows him to play with the book without help, and the pictures are really cute. Besides it helps to build new vocabulary (small, short, tall; high, low; fast, slow; heavy, light; day, night; in, out; whisper, shout; weak, strong; right, wrong; hot, cold; young, old; wet, dry; hello and goodbye). We've had our copy for six months and it is in excellent condition. I can say the same of Boynton's The Going to Bed Book, which has been with us for 3 years and has been a favourite all this time, and after reading it several times every night to one or the other child, it is still in one piece and the pages have not worn out. After buying "Opposites" for my son I have purchased another copy for a friend's toddler and he seemed to like it too. I highly recommend it if you like Sandra Boynton's style.
