Do the stickers on the front come off?

Yes, it leaves a bit of a dark mark but comes off easily and you can use either side as the "front" of the book I usually leave that side as the back.

I have only used pen on the paper and it didn't smudge. I wouldn't think that pencil would smudge on this paper.
