Great Transformer for the Price. Highly Recommend.
I have been installing landscape lighting systems for over 10 years now as a part of home building and remodeling projects that I do. I have been in the past purchasing commercial grade transformers for durability and reliability. One system that we installed a couple of years ago had over 50 fixtures and used 900 watts of power. We installed a 900 watt transformer on this job, however it would fail at 6 month intervals. Even though the manufacturer would replace with a new one free of charge, the shipping and installing of a new transformer each time was costing me a lot of money as well as being frustrating for the client and us. So...I decided to try replacing the one 900 watt transformer with 3 of these moonrays 300 watt transformers. And I can report that after over a year of service that they are still working great. Not a single problem running at their max rating of 300 watts. Several months ago we changed out the incandescent bulbs to LED's and now they are running around 250 watts on the whole system. Each of the 3 transformers is running about 83 watts. And they have been working great.Last week the clients had a lightening strike near their home. It must have travelled thru the buried low voltage wire runs as we had a surge protector on the power line side of the transformers where they were plugged in. Over 30 of the fixtures had blown LED's. We ran an array of tests on the transformers and they were still working fine! I couldn't believe it. I am truly impressed with them. I am now using them on all of my jobs. With LED fixtures/bulbs becoming much more affordable, this 300 watt transformer is all we ever have to install even on very large jobs.I do want to mention that the original ones that I ordered a couple of years ago had the photocell under the clear window to the left of the LED Indicator on the front of the unit. The Amazon photo still shows this same style transformer. The newer one no longer have the photocell in this location. Instead you can see a black and red wire at the old photocell location and now there is a 8 foot lead wire out of the bottom of the transformer with the photocell at the end of it. We usually mount our the transformer outside and the old style worked perfect for us, however this new style will allow you to mount the transformer inside or remotely within 8 feet of a sunlit location. We just coil the wire up and zip tie it close up on the under side of the transformer where it can still receive sunlight. This new design does allow greater flexibility of mounting options so it really is a better design. I hope the photocell holds up as well as the old ones do. I don't really see why they wouldn't. So far we haven't had any problems, but we have not tested the new design for over a year in operation yet.2 more points I would like to make:First is that there are only two screws on the underside of the transformer for you to connect your low voltage wire to. On the commercial transformers that we used to install there would be a bus bar that had pencil sized holes in it with captive screws coming up from underneath the holes to compress and hold the wires that were inserted into the holes. This would allow you to insert 3-12ga or 4-14ga wires into the hole easily and secure with screw. The way we work around attaching many wires to this transformer is by using 2 white and 2 black 12 gauge solid copper wires as pigtails. You can easily place the 2 white wires under either side of one of the screw terminals and the black wires on the other. Then you will have 2 neutrals and two hot pigtails that you can wire nut your low voltage wires too. We bend the pigtails up after installation so that the wire nuts are facing up and shed any water that may reach them. Second is that on the commercial units you usually have stepped voltages on the bus bar. They would start at 12 volts and go up to 15 volts. You would then use the higher voltage outputs for longer runs of lights that were farther away or had more fixtures on them. This would allow you to even out the brightness levels of all your fixtures in your system. If you are running conventional incandescent or halogen bulbs then you may want to keep this in mind, especially if you have a landscape design that spreads out your fixtures at greatly varying lengths. This transformer has only one set of 12 Volt terminals.LED lights have allowed us to make longer runs with smaller gauge wire and has virtually eliminated brightness variances. This transformer is a perfect fit for LED's. Also if you have a limited number of incandescent fixtures (10 or less maybe) and/or you have them run in parallel then this would probably work great as well.In conclusion I will have to say that this transformer has exceeded my expectations and I have been very pleased with it. It has also dropping in price from &97 to $85 since I first purchased one over 2 years ago. This really is a great deal. Hope this review helps! Good Luck with your Landscape Lighting Project.

Big, heavy and easy to set up
The media could not be loaded. Prefacing with a short update: It's been nearly two years since I set this up. I haven't touched it since and it's worked flawlessly. I've added a (blurry) video of my backyard showing most of the lights. This guy is solid!I had another brand of transformer that lasted only three months. That was a Paradise. It was kind of difficult to set up - kind of like a new watch with a bunch of buttons and features - but doable. It was advertised as weatherproof. After the first rain the LCD screen had water in it and was ruined. Three months later and multiple storms it stopped working completely. I opened it up to find this 'weatherproof' transformer full of water. Not willing to go with that brand again I decided to try this Malibu transformer. This was a little cheaper than my previous transformer and much better designed. The other was plastic. This one is all metal. The wire connections are completely protected from the weather and they are off set with one pair of connections being lower and stepped in further so they are no where near each other providing more room to easily connect the landscape wires. Each set of connections has it’s own reset button. This 600 watt transformer is big and heavy at 16 inches tall, 5 inches wide and 5 inches deep. The technical details claim it weights 27.9 pounds and I believe it. A couple of large screws with plastic inserts for stucco walls are included for hanging the transformer. I’ve got it attached to a wooden pole out in the middle of the garden by the waterfall. Setup was easy. It has one button and one LED screen that shows either O, A or the numbers 1-9. Press it once for O (on), press it for A (auto dusk to dawn) or keep pressing and get the numbers 1-9 for dusk to what ever time limit you choose. On at dusk and off after 1 to 9 hours. The red LED numbers/letters are big, bright and easy to see. I've only had it installed for two days as of this writing, but am so far extremely satisfied. Many reviews condemn this unit because of a faulty photocell that apparently stops functioning. I'll never know since I just leave it in the O (on) position and have it plugged into an outdoor timer which I have other LED lights and an outdoor bug zapper connected to. That way, everything comes on at once. I have high hopes for this transformer. I'm pretty good at updating reviews so if it starts getting wonky or stops working expect me to update.Update: It's only been several weeks since installation and I have had no problems with this transformer. It is mounted in the middle of my backyard in the flowers and shrubs with no protection from the weather at all. It has already endured multiple heavy rainstorms with no ill effects. Remember, my previous 'weatherproof' transformer started to malfunction after the first rain. So far things are looking good for this transformer.Final Update: It's been over a year. This transformer has been sitting out in the weather flawlessly doing it's job turning on my landscape lights nightly without fail. I feel I couldn't have made a better choice. It looks like I installed it yesterday and functions like it to. Even if it failed now I would likely replace it with the same model. This is one solid dependable piece of equipment.

Perfect and Hassle-Free
This device mounted without problem, was simple to integrate with the existing low-voltage lights, and has operated flawlessly for eight years.Eight years without problem. Also, every time I felt like adjusting the runtime, it's really easy to figure out how the controls work. That is to say the user interface is simple. This is a very reliable and well-designed product.

Better than I thought it would be.
I really like this unit so far. I bought this unit along with a 120 watt Malibu unit that was much more expensive and am comparing the two side by side. The bad is it does not go past a 8 hour setting while the Malibu goes up to 10 hours as an option. The writing on the unit for the settings is so small that it becomes difficult to read. The good is its lighter and easier to put up - it only needs one screw to hold it while the Malibu needs two. Not a problem if your mounting this on a wall but mine was on a 4x4 post and the screws were right at the edges so the noma wins here. The other good thing is that the sensor is built in by the dial and well protected. The Malibu has a wimpy sensor you attach separately. So far this unit I definitely like better, it's easier to use, install and cheaper for the same 120 watt per.

Does what it says
I got the 120 watt unit with the old fashioned mechanical rotary switch. It has all the modes I need and never forgets settings during a power failure. (I avoided competing units that have a built in clock since the last thing I want to do is go outside now and then to reset yet another clock.) It's less expensive than a lot of competing units but does the job.I've had an identical unit for a few years that still works perfectly so I have a fair bit of confidence in their reliability. If I have one criticism, it's that the lights on my unit didn't come on until it was quite dark, much later than my other photocell activated supplies. But masking off a small part of the photocell window with electrical tape solved that problem.

Works so far
I installed seventeen 4 watt moonray lights using a combination of 14 awg and the 18 awg wire that came with the moonray light kit with this power pack and it works but not what I expected. At first I thought I received a faulty unit as the "Auto" setting didn't seem to work during my testing of each light as I installed them. I covered the light sensor with my thumb but the unit did not turn on. I stuck it in a box to block out all the light but still had the same problem. It wasn't until I checked the lights at night that I found that the function did work. I guess the sensor has a long delay before turning on as it is not like the power pack that comes with the 10 piece lighting kit. That 48 watt power pack turns on instantaneously when you cover the light sensor. This power pack is heavier than the 48 watt power pack and seems solidly built and I hope it will last a long time.

Set it and forget it.
I had purchased this identical product some years ago at HomeDepot. I needed a second one and purchased here on-line. It is bullet-proof and idiot-proof. We live in a climate where it starts to rain in November and doesn't stop until April, every year..........it doesn't fail. Worth the money for its purpose.

Quite dissatisfied actually.
I bought this product 1 yr ago expecting at least 5-6 yrs of continued use. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. I use it to light up my landscape lights around my pool. Just opened my pool this week, plugged in the unit and to my surprise, it’s not working. I’ve checked the wiring, checked the connection checked everything. The fuse reset button isn’t working, now almost exactly 1 yr old. I’ve got to find a new solution. I’m trying to contact the seller but there’s no contact information. Hopefully I’ll hear from them here, if I do I’ll post an update.
