It is a pretty coarse foam lilter. But as to the PPI of the foam, you would have to check with the manufacturer. I haven't seen it listed.

Sorry, I only use these foam filter inserts for my freshwater 40 gallon aquarium. As much as I would like to be scuba diving on a saltwater reef right now, I regret cannot help you, sorry.

what is the minimum particle size (in micron) that the sponge can filter?

Traps large particles...detritus and such. Not designed for anything measuring in very small microns.
