Love love LOVE this book.
I'm always looking for quality picture books for my preschooler that show diversity without diversity being what the book is about. We got this because it was the 2018 Read for the Record pick. At first my son didn't want anything to do with it, because he doesn't like new things. But they read it at school and I read it at home and after repeated exposure he adored it and asked me to read it multiple times each day. He started reciting lines and we talk about it every time he paints. I'd initially gotten it from the library (because of him sometimes being adverse to new things) but when we returned it he was so disappointed that I immediately purchased a copy. When he's older we'll dive more into the true story that inspired the book. Plus, the illustrations are gorgeous! A great addition to any home or school library that will age well with the reader(s) in your life.

No maybes about it: This book is BEAUTIFUL in every way
If it was possible to give a book 10 stars, I'd do it. A book like this doesn't come along all that often. Exquisite in thought and design, it carries a powerful, layered message for all readers—children at all ages and adults. Isabel Campoy hits compelling and potent notes in her writing, while Rafael Lopez dazzles with images that bring the ideas to life. It's going to be a focus in my mentor text workshops, no question. A Lovely Book for Children and Adults
I purchased copies of “Maybe Something Beautiful...” because it is the book chosen by Jumpstart for Reading for its annual Read for the Record campaign happening on October 25, 2018.The book is based on a real event that took place in San Diego. And its message is about the importance of beauty in our lives—whether we are children or adults. I loved that message, and I believe it applies to everybody, regardless of age.The book is short, easy to read, and beautifully illustrated. I feel it was worth every bit of money used to buy it.

Great Mystery Read
I read this as the mystery guest in my granddaughter's first grade classroom. It is such a beautiful book with a beautiful message. I then gifted the book to her...she told me, "Grandma, I really, really love that book!" which was worth it all. Lovely, especially to encourage the young artist and encourage neighborhood beautification. I was hesitant because I wanted this time to be very special and, with this lovely book, it was.

Lovely, though more adult-centered story than child-centered.
I thought this would be more about a child who is heroic in their vision and actions. Instead, this is about an adult artist who comes in and whisks many members of the community together to create murals. Based upon a true story - very cool. Slightly more adult-centered that I had hoped is all.

Beautiful Book
My mother passed away in 2018. She was an artist of canvas & china. My Elementary school placed this book in our school library in honor of my Mother. For the 1yr anniversary of her passing I bought each of my siblings & father a copy. Such a beautiful book and reminder of my beautiful Mom & her talent.

Heartwarming story with captivating illustrations
One of my favorite books used during read alouds this school year! An easy to follow story with good themes to pull out for children. Also, with having a visually impaired student, she loved hearing about the illustrations on the page. The story was so captivating that I bought for the art teacher in our school as well.

The Perfect Gift for Any Young Reader
This picture book matches a beautiful, heartfelt story with vibrant, engaging imagery. I've gotten it for children of all ages and, whether 2 years or 6 years old, they loved reading it - over and over (and over...). To me, that's the ultimate sign of a wonderful story. Bravo!
