Harry N. Abrams Fifty Places to Sail Before You Die: Sailing Experts Share the World's Greatest Destinations

I gifted this book to my husband as he is the sailor in the family. He enjoyed the book and finished it within an hour. We now have it on a side table in our guest room to complete the beach/water theme.

This was a great read. It sent me down the rabbit hole and made me explore and dream even more. Highly recommend. ~ AKGypsy

Just not really what I was looking for. Although I may someday get into sailboat racing I was more curious about leisurely places to sail maybe with nice coast lines or quaint villages, diving or great fishing. There was some of that in this book but many of the places listed and described were of good places to race sailboats. Just was hoping for more variety and more photos of the places to sail and less of just the boats on the water, the boats could be on any water anywhere and some of the places didn't even have photos to got with their descriptions. Not hating the book, just not loving it. But if you like to race...look into buying this book!

This book is reasonable reading. However, it is one of a series of 50 places to X before you die, and it suffers from the same disease as many generic series. It lacks the nauences of the subject, doesn't go into depth and appears to use quite a few stock photos. The articles are quite short and often gloss over the destination to the destination. It would be amazing to see a book on this subject with national geographic quality articles on each destination.Moreover the book is very US centric. 18 of the locations are in the US and another 6 are in the immediate surrounds. Maine gets three locations the same as the number of Pacific islands and also the same as Asia. The back cover is quite deceptive in this respect.

Purchased this as a gift for my coworker that's about to retire. He's an avid sailor and wanted something he could use. Him and his wife called me so happy they loved this book and already plan on going to one of the destinations in a few months. Great gift for a traveler.
