With switch set to 3.3 volts on the programmer can you directlyTx and Rx to the ESP chip without level shift?** A: Yes. I've been programming numerous ESP8266 versions with this. No level shifting required **Q: Can it be powered via vcc and via usb at the same time?** A: While I have never done it, I only use it to program pro minis, it should be fine as long as it is under 500 mah, matches the 3.3/5v and shares the ground. I still think it would be best to program it only under USB power if possible though. At worst the fuse is tripped but that's what it is there for. If you ordered from me and do this, let me know your results. If it damages your board, please get in touch to get a no cost replacement. **Q: Gave up. can anyone get this to work? even tried with term emulator and known=-good mcu.** A: I found these only sort ot work with usb3.0. You can read, but not write. Don't forget some coms require rx and tx to flip.
