Rotation is silent.The finish is like a glossy finely painted automobile.Now that said does it push air like an old time wonderful Steel Bladed Patton?NODoes it have that smooth air roar sound of that same PattonNOBut it is very quiet on its lowest settingsA higher pitch sound is what you get at the top of its performance.In a 92 degree room 9x10 it reduced temps to 87 degrees F. My smaller floor Patton can do that on its medium setting.It is pricey. You're paying for the appealing look not so much a powerful performance.It should be at least $100 less than the nearly $300 it is (most of that I suspect is really the true shipping cost).And I do wish the remote indicated what speed the fan is on.
