2nd purchase
Been using their slip leads about 6 months. Bought this so we have a backup. Use the thinner one for our 40lb dog and it’s great. Durable tab (not typical for slip leads) and the length is great.

Good Quality; Pricey
Needed for shelter dog walking; good color (nobody else has red!), strong, high quality.A bit pricey.

Well made!
Shorter than expected but really love how it allows me to train my English Mastiff walk on a leash.

Very durable
I volunteer at a Humane Society and have walked hundreds of dogs over the past year. The leash is holding up well despite me throwing it in the washing machine every weekend.

Better product available for less than half the price
These leashes are excellent in every way and I would never use any other type of leash for training or every day use. The price is a bit ridiculous and one can find an equally good, if not better leash for half the price, or thereabouts. 5 stars for quality, 3 stars for price. Check out Fida instead.

Great little leash, and it's MADE IN USA. Thanks, Mendota!
(Note: I've worked as a professional dog trainer for the past 15 years.) YAY!!! This leash just WORKS in so many ways!!! Hooray and hats off to Mendota. (I bought three, I liked the first one so much: 1/2" x 4', 1/2" x 6', and 3/8" by 4'.) Here are some of the things I love about this leash: the rope is not stiff and scratchy (comfier for me AND my dog, as well as being easier on his coat), the fastenings seem really secure, the slider that keeps the collar part from slipping open is reassuringly snug, the leashes come in various widths and lengths, and they color options are pretty nice--something for everyone. I have a 50-pound Spaniel who can pull like the cutest freight train you've ever seen. Harnesses are problematic because (a) they alter his natural gait, and (b) they almost immediately create terrible knots in his "armpits." Martingale collars work pretty well with my dog, but he has wiggled around a couple of times when other people held his collar incorrectly and they basically let my dog slip out of his collar--YIKES!!! So, with some misgivings, I tried a slip lead (because he uses these in shows and rarely pulls in that context). The problem with slip leads, of course, is they just get tighter and tighter around your pulling dog's neck--not good at all!! Anyway, long story short, he seems to understand that when he's on a slip lead, he isn't supposed to pull--he simply doesn't do it. Would I recommend a sliplead for every dog? Of course not. But in the right setting, right dog, right handler, right positive training, right practice, etc., it can be a great tool. AND--it's great for those quick trips out into the yard at night while checking for critters! LAST POINT: the length INCLUDES THE NECK LOOP ("collar" part of the leash). so the 4' lead is really pretty short and will keep your dog right by your side. While you might want this in certain contexts, for everyday walking, I'd recommend the 6' length. And as far as width goes, the thicker the rope the fewer pounds per square inch of pressure on your dog's neck--so, the wider the rope, the comfier for your dog. The 1/2" width is a great middle-ground width for the vast majority of dogs; the narrower leash would be best for lighter dogs or those who don't pull terribly on a slip lead. A++ to Mendota Products for getting this product really right, and doing it in the USA! These leashes are FAR better than any other rope-type lead I've seen, which might look cool but aren't as functional as leashes.

Very good quality.
Mendota is a quality product. I have used their leads and lanyards for a long time. They are worth any extra cost over a cheaper brand.

Love this leash!
I purchased this leash for my three-year-old Dachshund that weighs 18 pounds. I love to go on long walks with him and I sometimes let him go off leash when we are in more rural areas as he behaves very well. I was looking for a leash that was easy to slip on and off for this reason. My dog also slips out of his collar every now and then so I thought this would be a perfect fit for my needs. When used correctly, slip leads do not choke the dog and make handling dogs that may be not as great on a leash or are in training to walk on a leash nicely a lot easier. I would say this product is great for any dog owner who enjoys walking with their dog, whether they are fully leash trained or not. I see that it would be a great benefit to someone who wants more control of their dog, whether they are strong or big or both as the pressure the lead puts on when they pull is very effective, even with my small dog. I have great control using this leash and I would be very comfortable walking a large, strong dog with it. The smoothness of the lead is also a great attribute. I do not think I would get a rope burn if a large dog were to pull hard on it. Another great use of this leash would be for a rescue, as it is easy to slip leads on and off between dogs. The lead is a nice thick material that is very soft and smooth. It is tri-colored and I think the colors are so bright and fun and I see that the lead comes in other colors as well, even with different brands! The leather part that stops the lead from slipping too far back and is on the ends of both sides of the leash is very durable and has a great design to it. The whole leash itself is very durable and I think it will last me a long time. The ring that slips on the lead is a great size and it slips very easily which is great. The leash is also a great length, at 6 feet; I have no problem walking my Dachshund with it. I had a great experience with this company as it shipped very fast and I couldn’t be more pleased with this product.
