Kowood Router Bit Set-Up Jigs (for 45° Lock Miter Router Bit, 1/2” & 3/4” Cutting Height)

I had 24 storage boxes to build. I chose the lock miter joint as I would not need a truck full of clamps to hold the boxes together until the glue dried, I would have needed a thousand pocket hole screws, to build them that way.A couple of staples to tack the assembled, glued joint held until the glue joint dried.Setting up for the lock miter joint can take a good amount of time.This block will hand you the set up for 1/2” and 3/4” ply.Worked great.

For initial setup this will get you started. It's best to use some scrap of the same thickness to fine tune the depth and your router fence.

After reading the reviews that it doesn't work with this bit or that bit, I was sceptical about buying this jig. I bought a cheap bit and was worried it wouldn't work with that bit, but after some thought, I bought the jig, does it fit 100% with the cheap bit, no, but was close enough that I didn't have to modify the router up/down, it worked first time, and if anyone has ever set up a lock mitre router bit, it can be pretty tricky getting the right height, but this worked first try... Very impressed..

I bought a KOWOOD 3/4 Lock miter bit and this setup jig doesnt actually fit it. Lock miter bits have to be set up exact and it the Jig doesnt actually fit the bit, then its not going to help you. Setting up freehand by eyeballing it would be just as close. If you look at my pic you can see the gaps and it doesnt fit flush. This means your fence will be set up 1/8 inch off and a bit too high. It's a KOWOOD setup jig so I would have assumed this was to marry up to their own router bit.

This makes it easy to set up and shortens the set up time.

I bought a 1/2 Inch Shank Lock Miter Router Bit 45 Degree, 1/2 Inch to 1 Inch Stock, 2-3/4 Inch Diameter, CNC Wood Router Bits by NITOMAK(Carbide) and then bought this setup block thinking that the bits were universal, but they are not. The cutting edge of the upper section is much thicker than the setup block. Will have to return it.

This is great to use as a quick reference for setting router depth. Works like a charm and works with both 1/2" and 3/4" bits.
