Anne of Green Gables is an Fun Read Especially in Quarantine
Anne of Green Gables, a classic novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery, is an energetic read full of imagination, creativity, conflict, and love. I read this book for my 8th grade ELA homeschool, and liked how I could see some of my character traits represented in Anne Shirley. The book starts out a little slow, mostly because it was written so long ago, and the first chapter is a little boring because it is just two women, Marilla Cuthbert, and Rachel Lynde gossiping, but once you meet Anne in chapter 2, the book’s pace quickly speeds up.Anne is a fun character to read about. She is a bit of a hot-head, with a sharp tongue, who is kind and imaginative, but also a little forgetful, so she creates many conflicts throughout the book. One of my favorite scenes in this book is when Anne is in school, and a boy named Gilbert Blythe wants to get her attention, so he calls Anne “carrots,” because her hair is bright reddish-orange. Anne is very insecure about her hair, and she complains about it throughout the course of the book, making Anne so mad when Gilbert calls her carrots, that she stands up with her school slate, hits it over Gilbert's head, and then reprimands him for his actions. This is only one of the many entertaining scenes in Anne of Green Gables, a calm yet exciting, sweet yet sad, all together amazing book.*Please Note I am writing this from my mom's Amazon account :) *
