The locking mechanism is heavy plastic and clips tightly. I would trust it with my Strat.

Q: When strapless, does headstock tie dangle/get in your way?

Like any strap, when pulled over head it is out of way. My brother is professional and has same one for acoustic without knob/nut in body.

Q: How can I shorten it? It adds so much length to my leather strap the guitar hangs too low to play.
